10 Fast Facts from Last Night’s Games — Gregg Popovich Becomes 9th Coach to Win 1000 Games

The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Monday, February 9 with a slate of nine games. A legendary coach added another incredible feat to his resume, while the game’s best active scorer put on yet another unforgettable performance.

Here’s how it all transpired.

1. Tony Parker recorded 19 points and six assists to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 95-93 comeback victory over the Indiana Pacers. Tim Duncan added 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for San Antonio, and David West recorded 10 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists and one block for Indiana.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recorded win No. 1000.

2. Popovich is the ninth coach to win at least 1,000 games. The others are Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, George Karl, Larry Brown and Rick Adelman.

3. Kevin Durant erupted for 40 points on 13-of-19 shooting as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Denver Nuggets 124-114. For the Thunder, Russell Westbrook added 26 points, nine assists and five rebounds, and Mitch McGary tallied 17 points and 10 boards, while Wilson Chandler scored 23 points, and both Kenneth Faried and Ty Lawson recorded 22 for the Nuggets.

Durant has scored at least 40 points in 43 games since entering the league in 2007-08. That’s the most in the NBA during that timeframe.

4. Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan were dominant as the Los Angeles Clippers blew out the Dallas Mavericks 115-98. Jordan recorded 22 points, 27 rebounds, three blocks and a steal on 8-of-12 shooting, and CP3 tallied 25 points, 13 assists, six rebounds and two steals.

Jordan’s 27 rebounds are the most of any player since Timofey Mozgov had 29 on April 10, 2014.

5. Al Horford scored 28 points and DeMarre Carroll posted 26 to lead the Atlanta Hawks to an efficient 117-105 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kevin Martin finished with 21 points and Shabazz Muhammad put up 18 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes, but Minnesota ultimately fell short.

The Timberwolves had won three in a row entering this game.

6. It wasn’t pretty, but the Golden State Warriors escaped with an 89-84 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Stephen Curry scored 20 points and Leandro Barbosa put up 16 in 20 minutes to lead the Warriors, while Robert Covington had 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the 76ers.

The Warriors clinch a record of .500 or better with win No. 41. Only the Hawks have more with 43.

7. Jared Dudley was a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc and Khris Middleton posted 18 points and four steals to help the Milwaukee Bucks get past the Brooklyn Nets 103-97. Jarrett Jack led the Nets with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Giannis Antetokounmpo shined for the Bucks with 12 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one block.

Milwaukee has won seven of its past eight games.

8. In a physical and low-scoring battle, the Washington Wizards took down the Orlando Magic 96-80. Marcin Gortat had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and John Wall posted nine points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, one block and a steal to lead the Wizards, while Evan Fournier scored a game-high 18 points off the bench for the Magic.

Orlando has lost 12 of 13.

9. Chris Bosh scored 32 points to lead the shorthanded Miami Heat to a 109-95 victory over the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 26 points, but Bosh scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Miami avoid defeat.

At 10-42, the Knicks are the first team in 2014-15 to secure a losing record.

10. Gordon Hayward put up 32 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block as the Utah Jazz defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 100-96. Tyreke Evans had 18 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, one block and a steal to lead the Pelicans, while Derrick Favors added 18 points for the Jazz.

Eric Gordon scored a season-high 31 points for the Pelicans.

Bonus Fact: Of the nine coaches with at least 1,000 wins, only Phil Jackson has a better regular season win percentage than Gregg Popovich.
