The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Thursday, February 26 with two games between contenders. There were extraordinary statistical feats in both outings, including a triple-double and a 42-point eruption.
This is how it all transpired.
1. LeBron James went off for a season-high 42 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block as the Cleveland Cavaliers picked up a convincing 110-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors. James single-handedly outscored the Splash Brothers, who combined for 31 points on 10-of-30 shooting.
Cleveland has won 18 of its past 20 games.
2. This was James’ 41st game with at least 40 points, five rebounds and five assists, That passes Elgin Baylor for No. 4 in NBA history.
3. Cleveland shot 53.2 percent from the field on possessions in which James was on the floor and touched the ball. It shot 25 percent when he was on the floor and didn’t handle the rock.
4. Eric Bledsoe and Russell Westbrook dueled as the Phoenix Suns outgunned the Oklahoma City Thunder 117-113 in overtime. Bledsoe recorded 28 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists, four blocks and a steal on 11-of-16 shooting for Phoenix, while Westbrook tallied 39 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals on a mark of 12-of-38 from the field.
The loss snaps OKC’s seven-game winning streak.
5. This was Westbrook’s third triple-double of the month. No other player has more than three in all of 2014-15.
Bonus Fact: Westbrook’s 31.6 percent shooting from the field is the worst of any player to record a 30-point triple-double over the past 25 years.
