It’s been a long time coming for the Golden State Warriors and their fanbase, but the team finally did something it hadn’t done in almost four decades: take home the division crown.
After a 122-108 victory on the road over a short-handed Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, and with 11 games still left to play on the season, the Warriors clinched their first division title in 39 years.
39 years.
To put in perspective of how ridiculous that is, nobody on the current roster was even born the last time they won a division title, and their current coach Steve Kerr was just 10 years old when it happened. As sweet as it is to finally lock down the division that has been dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers for so long, though, this is just the tip of the iceberg for quite possibly the greatest Warriors team of all-time.
There is still much to be done for the best team in the league, but rather than overlooking the division crown, Stephen Curry and company decided to take some time to appreciate and live in the moment of what they were able to achieve on Tuesday – mostly by sharing a team photo of all the players wearing a “Pacific Claimed” t-shirt:
