Rain, rain, go away. Two MLB games were postponed on Monday, leaving quite a few unlucky daily fantasy players with holes in their lineups. Toronto will play a “split doubleheader” in Washington DC today, with the first game (a 1:05 start) off the board at DraftKings.
The nightcap is a pitching mismatch, with Max Scherzer $12000 a heavy favorite against Marco Estrada $5800. Any batters rested by the Nationals in the matinee are solid plays in All-Day contests (closing at 3:10 Eastern) and in evening action at 7:05.
There’s another twin bill in Colorado as the Dodgers send out fill-in starter Juan Nicasio 4000 against his former teammates in the opener. The matinee is playable only in All-Day pools; Zack Greinke $9900 takes the hill in the second game and even at Coors Field, is one of the better SP options.
DK matches your first deposit 100% (up to $600) with bonus funds that convert to cash. You’ll also get a FREE entry into the $100K Moonshot, which offers 7,850 guaranteed cash prizes — $10,000 for first — and a maximum of 38,315 teams.
As always, you want to check weather and lineups as close to game time as possible. Managers will use almost every player on their roster — including the temporary 26th man — in doubleheaaders. It might be cold and wet again in Boston, where the Twins are visiting; they’re playing two tomorrow to make up for last night’s rainout and will try hard to get this one in.
Johnny Cueto $10400 (elbow) might be on a short leash, so the medium-priced SP are good value. Carlos Carrasco $8900 and Chris Archer $8900 are very capable of winning on the road, but I’m using the Mets’ talented rookie Noah Syndergaard $8100 and Cubs’ control artist Kyle Hendricks $7100 to afford better hitting. FYI, Alfredo Simon $6100 has the “Day-to-Day” red cross by his name but is 100% healthy; he was on bereavement leave after his father passed away and might be inspired to pitch very well.
Stackable bats include the Indians vs. Jeremy Guthrie $4800, the Cardinals against emergency callup Tyler Cravy $4000, the Reds (weather permitting) in Philly off Sean O’Sullivan $5000, the Cubs facing lefty Brad Hand $4200 and the Yankees — who rocked King Felix last night — vs. young southpaw Mike Montgomery, a one-time prospect now with his third team, making his big-league debut and not even assigned a salary.
At C, I prefer Carlos Santana $4500 but bargain-hunters should consider Yadier Molina $3200.
1B is loaded as usual. Todd Frazier $5100 (who also qualifies at 3B) is hot, teammate Joey Votto $4700 is also a strong play, Freddie Freeman $4800 homered last night, and Albert Pujols $4100 went deep twice.
The Tribe’s Jason Kipnis $5100 keeps mashing and Dee Gordon $4500 is always dangerous, but Kolten Wong $3800 might be the best bang for the buck at 2B, Use him if you are spending more than me on pitching.
In addition to Frazier, Kris Bryant $5000, Alex Rodriguez $4200 and Matt Carpenter $4200 are all good choices at third, with 2B/3B Jace Peterson $3500 good value on a bit of a roll.
If Troy Tulowitzki $5300 starts in the afternoon, he’s the top SS for All-Day pools. Safer plays include Starlin Castro $4000 and my choice Jhonny Peralta $3900. We told you yesterday that Short-Listed Ruben Tejada $2400 is thriving as the new everyday 3B for the Mets; he had three more hits last night and may hold the job until David Wright (spine) returns.
In the outfield, assuming Bryce Harper $5200 doesn’t play the opener, he’s worth that salary at night. Michael Brantley $4900 and Brandon Moss $4600 are both playable if you expect Cleveland to knock Guthrie out early. Nelson Cruz $4800 might level the boomstick on C.C. Sabathia $8000, but I’m saving money in the OF. Jason Heyward $4000 and Matt Holliday $3900 are attractively priced and I am a big fan of Billy Burns $3500; we knew he was fast but the wee rookie can hit, too.
