All the Guaranteed Prize Pools at DraftKings on Saturday close Early (2:10 ET; 10 games) or Late (7:15; 4 games) and I’m taking a simple approach in the evening.
Michael Wacha $10200 is the obvious choice at SP and the Cardinals are stackable against emergency callup Donn Roach $4400. Cleveland can hit Chris Tillman $6000 well enough to give Cody Anderson $5000 his second W in as many MLB starts. Mike Trout $5300 and Albert Pujols $4800 at home vs. J.A. Happ $7200? Sign me up.
DK does offer All-Day contests, the only way to use the high-scoring Blue Jays, whose Saturday start time is 1:07, catered to families. There are entertainers, events, displays and after the game kids get to circle the bases like Edwin(g) Encarnacion $4700 and his teammates did 12 times last night.
DK matches your first deposit 100% (up to $600) with bonus funds that convert to cash. You also get a FREE entry into the $60K Moonshot, with 4,625 guaranteed cash prizes — $4,000 for first — and a maximum of 22,988 teams.
The biggest challenge and the biggest payoffs are in Early play. Build your lineup around Clayton Kershaw $12300 — in Miami with Giancarlo Stanton $4500 (hand) injured — or try to save a few dollars at SP. Scott Kazmir $9000, Julio Teheran $8300 and Gio Gonzalez $7900 are all good value.
Buster Posey $4500 is the #1 C and qualifies at first base too. Josh Phegley $3400 will start for the A’s because Steven Vogt $4200 (wrist) is hurt.
Pay for 1B/3B Miguel Cabrera $5500, consider Posey or take the low price on Adrian Gonzalez $4000 — the Dodgers are facing Tom Koelher $6000, who missed a start with a sore neck.
The underrated Brian Dozier $4600 hit his 15th HR last night. 2B has been thinned by injuries to Anthony Rendon (quad) and Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) but there are still a few potential bargains, like Howie Kendrick $3900 and Joe Panik $3600.
If you use Miggy at 1B, Nolan Arenado $4800 is a no-brainer at third. Unlike some of the Rockies, he’s dangerous on the road (2 more HR last night.) Against a lefty, Evan Longoria $3800 is worth a look and Pablo Sandoval $3400 is a great price.
Troy Tulowitzki $4700 always makes sense at SS but we often try to save money there. Injuries have altered Boston’s lineup and Xander Bogaerts $3900 is hitting third. 2B/SS Jose Pirela played LF on Thursday and will start somewhere against another southpaw.
J.D. Martinez $5200 is on a power surge with 7 HR in his last 10 games. He’s gone deep in three straight and faces John Danks $5000 tonight. Teammate Yoenis Cespedes $4300 could also be involved in a rally or two. Ryan Braun $4600 and Carlos Gomez $4800 might be heating up. Partial to the A’s against Chris Young $5300, I’m using Josh Reddick $3700 for sure and leaning toward 2B/OF Ben Zobrist $4700. Other OF to consider include Joc Pederson $4200, Gerardo Parra $3600 and Alejandro De Aza $3100.
