Wake up! All-Day contests at DraftKings close at 1:10 Eastern, when Jacob DeGrom $11500 and proud papa Zack Greinke $13000 will stage one of the season’s most anticipated pitching duels. In another tough game for hitters, Gerrit Cole $10600 isn’t guaranteed to beat Joe Ross $7500, who struck out 11 Pirates on June 19.
Dallas Keuchel $11300 is on a roll, allowing runs in only two of his last five starts and notching 44 K in 37 IP. Michael Wacha $9700 is back home after two sub-par starts in Chicago. Rookie lefty Andrew Heaney $8600 has been outstanding in all five big-league starts (4-0, 1.57, 27 K, 4 BB) and remains affordable.
Although we’re sticking with the full schedule in today’s sample lineup and Short List, there are Early Only offerings (1:10; 8 games) plus Turbo play (2:10; 4 games) and Late contests (4:05; 6 games) where pitching is relatively scarce — Mat Latos $8000 tops the list.
Plays of the Day
New to DK? Your first deposit earns a FREE entry into the Early $8K Moonshot, with 616 guaranteed cash prizes — $700 for first — and a maximum of 3,066 teams. If you’re already playing there, it’s a $3 buy-in, multiple teams are allowed and it closes at 1:10.
For a risk-reward SP, try Aaron Nola $5600. A day after being no-hit by Cole Hamels, the Cubs will be unfamiliar with the righty, picked #7 overall in last year’s draft. In three years at LSU, Nola had 345 K and 52 BB. In just 165 IP across three minor-league levels, he whiffed 137 and walked 28.
Because I’m using Nola and Ross, there’s plenty of money for bats. Beware of regulars (especially catchers) getting the day off; Brian McCann $4000 rested yesterday and Russell Martin $3700 sat out on Friday. Rookie slugger Kyle Schwarber $4600 is no longer underpriced.
Teams keep pitching around Paul Goldschmidt $5500 so I’m going with Joey Votto $5800 in Colorado at 1B. Albert Pujols $4200 is solid value in the midrange, while David Ortiz $4000 and all the Red Sox have a slump-busting opportunity.
Brian Dozier $4800 is having a big series, and Jose Altuve $5100 deserves that salary, but we told you more than a week ago that Robinson Cano $4000 would stay hot. Ignore the L-L matchup; soft-tossing Mark Buerhle $7700 has a reverse platoon split.
1B/3B Todd Frazier $6000 is the top-salaried hitter on the board . Congratulations if you had Alex Rodriguez $4600 for a 3-homer, 44-point outburst last night. That’s six bombs in 10 games and 23 on the season — can you be Comeback Player of the Year after an embarrassing suspension? Note that 2B/3B Anthony Rendon $3300 is back and cheap; I’m waiting until Wednesday to use him.
We seriously considerthe amazing Carlos Correa $4700 every day at SS, but 3B/SS Xander Bogaerts $3900 and OF/SS Hanley Ramirez $4100 are both sitting on a breakout game against an opponent whose rotation spot is very shaky.
Yesterday we touted Mike Trout $5200 and Kole Calhoun $3800 as Angels in the Outfield. They combined for 27 PTS. We also remain on the Carlos Gonzalez $4900 bandwagon, despite a hefty pay hike. J.D. Martinez $4900 reached base five times in the last two games and seems due for a Monster shot. Adam Jones $4100 and the Orioles get to face a struggling Matt Moore $4400. We keep raving about Melky Cabrera $3200 and he keeps raking; Danny Salazar $10400 is a tough foe but the Melk Man may deliver profits again. Lefty-masher Ryan Raburn $2300 deserves a mention in a spot start vs. rookie Carlos Rodon $6000, whose slider is a weapon that’s hard to control.
