On a full slate of 15 ballgames, DraftKings features All-Day contests at 4:05 Eastern, with Turbo (8:05; 2 games) and Late offerings (9:40; 5 games) but the big money is at 7:05, with some spectacular pitching matchups in the 14 evening tilts.
Clayton Kershaw $15000 vs. Gerrit Cole $10800 is one potential duel, with Jacob DeGrom $12100 facing Jake Odorizzi $9000 in another. It’s also hard to pick a winner between Dallas Keuchel $11900 and Sonny Gray $11200.
One high-priced ace who seems likely to get the W is Jose Fernandez $13000, although we aren’t going to spend that much in the sample lineup and Short List. Cole Hamels $10300 is favored against Hisashi Iwakuma $7800, but the Mariners’ righty can keep it close. Other possible bargain SP include rookies Aaron Nola $6000 and Daniel Norris $6400, who tries to win his second straight for the Tigers since being acquired for David Price.
Hitters can be found anywhere, but some of the games we’re targeting for bats are the Blue Jays at Yankees, White Sox at Royals, Twins at Indians and Reds at Diamondbacks.
Plays of the Day
New to DK? Your first deposit earns a FREE entry into the $140K Moonshot — the winner gets $10,000 and 11,165 teams out of a maximum 53,662 earn cash. All prize money is guaranteed even if it doesn’t fill. It’s normally a $3 buy-in, and multiple teams are allowed. Enter by 7:05; you can make lineup changes until each player’s game begins.
DK is also offering the largest fantasy football contest of all time. The NFL $10M Millionaire Maker has a $2 million top prize, $1 million to second place and $7 million more in guaranteed payouts. 125,700 teams will earn cash from a maximum of 572,500 entries.
Within a salary cap of $50,000, select 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 DST and you can make unlimited lineup changes until 1:00 Eastern on Sunday, September 13. It’s a $20 buy-in for two chances at a million bucks.
We loved Kyle Schwarber $3700 last night but he’s available only in All-Day contests. Welington Castillo $3900 is our play at C, off 6 HR in 9 games, with Salvador Perez $3200 a very good price.
After a rare day off, Paul Goldschmidt $5600 tops the 1B list, though Joey Votto $5100 could shine in the same game. Victor Martinez $3500 blasted two homers yesterday and could stay hot.
At 2B, Brian Dozier $4400 had a tough series in Toronto and is due to break out. 2B/3B Jonathan Schoop $3400 has some pop, and 2B/3B Anthony Rendon $3200 is also affordable.
It’s news when 3B Josh Donaldson $5500 doesn’t homer; he still scored 23 PTS last night with two hits, two walks and a steal. Rookie Miguel Sano $4400 has tremendous power, with Schoop or Rendon playable if you didn’t use them at second.
Carlos Correa $4800 has the tougher matchup, making Troy Tulowitzki $4300 our #1 SS tonight. 2B/SS Carlos Sanchez $2500 is a decent hitter for a very small investment.
We called Jacoby Ellsbury $4100 on Thursday and he homered off a lefty. J.D. Martinez $5200 and Mike Trout $4900 are solid value. I like Michael Brantley $4700 to return fresh after two days off, and Adam Eaton $4300 to be a catalyst in KC. Told you 3B/OF Adonis Garcia $2000 can hit, although he’ll have easier matchups. Khris Davis $2800 smacked 2 HR and 6 RBI yesterday if you’re looking to save money.
