On an otherwise routine MLB Monday, there’s another huge event at DraftKings. Somebody’s going to win $100,000 for just three bucks by picking the 10-man fantasy team that scores the most points.
All-Day contests at 2:05 Eastern include the Indians at Cubs, but the $300K Moonshot and other large pools are on the 9-game slate at 7:05.
While it’s hard to assign 1-2-3 status on the brilliant Mets staff, Jacob DeGrom $12000 has a 1.98 ERA and 158 K to 29 BB — the best season of the trio — and should dominate the Phillies. The salary is fair, though he’s not a must-start.
Topping the more affordable options, Hisashi Iwakuma $10200 had no-hit stuff in his last home game and will get run support against Felix Doubront $4900 and the A’s pen. It might be a close one in Atlanta with the edge to Julio Teheran $8100 over Jorge De La Rosa $7100.
Plays of the Day
The $300K Moonshot is only a $3 buy-in, and pays out 25,930 guaranteed cash prizes. Second place is worth $10,000. There’s a maximum of 115,000 teams — enter once or up to 200 times. Though it closes at 4:05, lineup changes can be made until each player’s game begins.
Among less-expensive SP, Nathan Eovaldi $6500 and Scott Feldman $5600 might both deliver quality starts; I prefer the flamethrowing Yankee at home. Kris Medlen $5200 is tempting but will be on a tight pitch count. He’s on my use-next-time list.
The Reds hitters will attack Buck Farmer $4000 and Detroit’s bats might get to Keyvius Sampson $4400 in the game with the most potential for a big score.
Brian McCann $4100 was the DH all weekend, so he might feel strong. Salvador Perez $3500 got Sunday off after a 3-run homer the night before. James McCann $2800 and Tucker Barnhart $2700 are cheap enough if you’re stacking DET @ CIN.
Over his last 10 games, Joey Votto $5600 has a 1.287 OPS. He and 1B/3B Miguel Cabrera $5800 both fit the stack with Miggy at third. My low-cost pick is 1B/3B Mark Reynolds $3000 in a hitters’ park vs. a lefty.
Both Ian Kinsler $4700 and Brandon Phillips $4000 are playable in a possible 10-9 ballgame, but so is 2B/OF Skip Schumaker $2000 if he starts.
3B/SS Jung Ho Kang $3800 would be Rookie of the Year in a lot of seasons, but 2015 is Year of the Rookie, especially in the National League. I’m using Cabrera at 3B, with Reynolds or Pablo Sandoval $3400 as value picks.
Jose Reyes $3800 had a decent homestand but the 30th-place Rockies aren’t putting up much of a fight lately. Jhonny Peralta $3900 has a good matchup and with 2B/SS Josh Rutledge $2100 playing every day, that’s a tempting price.
Nelson Cruz $5300 can lower the boomstick again and Yoenis Cespedes $5100 had an incredible 67-point Friday. J.D. Martinez $4800 and Jay Bruce $4100 are part of our stack. For cheaper OF with upside, Jackie Bradley Jr. $3500 had a monster Sunday for $800 more, and David Peralta $3200 went deep yesterday. Henry Urrutia $2400 has started semi-regularly for the O’s since being recalled.
