There’s baseball action galore at DraftKings on Wednesday. At 1:05 Eastern, All-Day (15 games) and Early (2 games) contests close. Then there are 14-game Afternoon leagues at 3:40 and the most lucrative contests at 7:05, spanning 13 evening ballgames.
Want more? Turbo contests (8:05; 3 games) offer an extra opportunity to invest in your choice of superstar hurlers Chris Sale $13,000, David Price $11300 and Johnny Cueto $10400. Late play (9:40; 2 games) wraps up a very busy DFS slate.
In the matinees, Felix Hernandez $10800 tries to get back in the groove after two disappointing starts; Chris Bassitt $8400 has been a bargain in eight straight, but his salary has finally caught up to his ability. Michael Pineda $10100 is a risky play coming off a forearm strain; Collin McHugh $9500 is safer.
Of all the high-priced SP, Chris Archer $12800 is coming off the best performance — a complete-game, 1-hit shutout in Houston with one walk and 11 strikeouts on just 98 pitches.
Plays of the Day
The $150K Moonshot is just a $3 buy-in — FREE to new depositors — and pays out 11,780 guaranteed cash prizes. First place is worth $12,000. There’s a maximum of 57,498 teams with multiple entries allowed. Deadline is 7:05, though lineup changes can be made until each player’s game begins.
Slightly more affordable, Justin Verlander $8200 has looked much better in his last three (1 ER in 20 IP) despite lousy run support. Two very cheap arms have some upside. Tyler Duffey $4600 has been surprisingly good in his last two starts and might duel with Archer in a close game. We touted Jerad Eickhoff $4100 in his MLB debut on Friday as he shut out the Marlins for six innings and drove in a couple of runs. The Mets are on fire (55 runs in winning five straight) but the big righty can outlast Bartolo Colon $6200.
Toronto scores runs in bunches and might get to Colby Lewis $7400 early. The Pirates RH batters face lefty Chris Narveson $4000 and the Marlins’ bullpen.
C/OF Kyle Schwarber $3900 belted his 12th HR last night. Teammate Miguel Montero $3100 also went deep and you can use both against Jake Peavy $6400. Or try Jonathan Lucroy $3100 again after a monster performance (2 HR, 37 PTS)
1B/3B Miguel Cabrera $5500 came through for us on Tuesday (2 R, 3 H, 3 RBI) and should stay hot. We liked Mike Napoli $3100 for $500 more last night and he homered. Justin Smoak $2500 is even cheaper and expected to bat fifth for the high-flying Jays.
Our pick Dee Gordon $4600 ran wild last night (4 SB; 30 PTS) against a righthander. Jason Kipnis $4200 or 2B/OF Ben Zobrist $4100 look like slightly better value.
At 3B, Josh Donaldson $6300 and Miggy are expensive but worth it. 1B/3B Todd Frazier $4400 might be waking up and Lonnie Chisenhall $3000 (who sits vs. LHP) has a 7-game hit streak.
Troy Tulowitzki $4600 is well rested and the #1 pick at shortstop. 3B/SS Jung Ho Kang $4000 has an ideal matchup and the hunch play is 2B/SS Ryan Goins $2300 in front of family and friends from Texas.
If you can afford Jose Bautista $5400, go for it. Starling Marte $5100 and Andrew McCutchen $4900 could be part of a rout in Miami. Adam Eaton $3700 and the White Sox might get to Rick Porcello $5200 early. I’m bullish on David Peralta $3300 vs. righties, and for an even cheaper OF, Tommy Pham $2800 scored 22 PTS last night and is batting second.
