While Fred Hoiberg is embarking on his first year as an NBA coach, he has plenty of experience. First, he played 10 seasons in the NBA. Second, he was an executive for four seasons in the NBA. Third, he spent five seasons as a collegiate coach at his Alma Mater, Iowa State. Hoiberg is the only current NBA head coach with experience as an NBA player, an NBA executive and as a Division I college head coach.

JIMMY STAYS A BULL:
The biggest offseason player news for the Bulls was re-signing Jimmy Butler to a long-term contract. Butler recorded 20.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season. In franchise history, only three other players have reached Butler’s 2014-15 points, rebounds and assist averages in a single season – Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Artis Gilmore. Each of those players was later enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

PORTIS’ AA CARD STAMPED (TWICE):
The Bulls selected Bobby Portis from Arkansas with the 22nd overall selection in the 2015 NBA draft. Head coach Fred Hoiberg saw Portis drop 18 points (8-10 FG shooting) and nine rebounds against his Iowa State squad on Dec. 4, 2014. Portis was selected as an All-American last season, after being selected to the 2013 McDonald’s All-American game coming out of high school. Portis and Mike Dunleavy are the only players on the current Bulls roster who were named All-Americans in high school and college.

PORTIS GOES TO SUMMER LEAGUE:
Bobby Portis averaged 14.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in Summer League action. He was the team’s second-leading scorer (Doug McDermott) and leading rebounder. Portis displayed a wide array of offensive moves, from hook shots to 3-pointers. His average shot distance was from 11.9 feet.
