There’s a strong case to be made that the Charlotte Hornets signing point guard Jeremy Lin to a two-year, $4.3-million deal was one of the better bargain signings of the NBA’s nearly-complete offseason.
Lin, still only 26 years old, certainly isn’t the dynamic player he appeared to be in early 2012 during his brief “Linsanity” run with the New York Knicks.
But since then, Lin has quietly worked to enhance his game and become a steady NBA rotation player. Last season, he averaged 11.2 points and 4.6 assists in 25 minutes per game (PER of 15.7) with the Lakers, and his three-point shooting improved to a career-best 37 percent.
Nonetheless, even with all the big-money contracts handed out this offseason, Lin wasn’t able to cash in. That worked to Charlotte’s benefit, as they were able to add a capable rotation piece at a bargain-basement price. Lin said he was excited to join the Hornets after an in-depth conversation with coach Steve Clifford about how the team plans to use him.
For a franchise that traditionally doesn’t make big splashes in free agency, Lin would seem to be a significant addition. But security personnel at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte don’t seem to have gotten the memo.
Went to the Hornets arena for 1st time and tried convincing security im a player. She said, “what team?!?” lollll #everywhereigo #literally

Lin is known for having a strong work ethic, so if nothing else, his appearance at the team’s facilities on an offseason Saturday speaks well to his motivation. And if Lin somehow plays well enough in Charlotte to justify a Linsanity movie sequel, perhaps Saturday’s awkward scene could make the cut.

Is that a sign that the Linsanity going to re-start again? Remember the same thing happened in New York before the Linsanity.
