Who wants to be a millionaire? Pick a 10-man baseball lineup for within a $50000 salary cap and enter the $2.5M Millionaire Maker at DraftKings. It’s a one-day fantasy “season” — the team that scores the most points in Tuesday evening’s 15 ballgames wins a million bucks.
There’s another $1,500,000 in guaranteed cash prizes. The top 29,420 teams from up to 143,125 teams get paid — second earns $100,000, third $50,000 and even 100th place wins $1,000. Multiple entries are permitted but it takes only one to win. Deadline is 7:05, with unlimited lineup changes allowed until each player’s game begins.
The Cubs and Pirates play a doubleheader. At 1:35, ace Gerrit Cole $10900 looks good in All-Day contests. That game doesn’t count in later pools, like the Millionaire Maker. In the 7:05 nightcap, J.A. Happ $7500 vs Jon Lester $9900 should be a low-scoring battle.
Jacob DeGrom $11900 won a huge game against the Nationals on Wednesday. With less at stake tonight, he can settle for being good, not great. Felix Hernandez $11200 is more likely to go the distance and with time running out for the Nationals, Stephen Strasburg $9800 might dominate the Phillies.
Josh Tomlin $10400 gave up three homers in his latest and still won his fifth in a row. I was completely wrong about the Orioles and Red Sox staging a shootout last night. Ubaldo Jimenez $7400 and Joe Kelly $6300 are reasonably priced if you expect another well-pitched ballgame.
1B/C Buster Posey $4200 is solid value against a rookie LHP. Brian McCann $3700 has tattooed Jake Odorizzi $10000 with four extra-base hits and 7 RBI in three games this year. While that sample size is supposedly meaningless, both players remember every pitch.
Gotta like 1B/OF Chris Davis $5600 is home against a righty. He has crushed 42 HR so far in his salary drive. Freddie Freeman $4500 is not an obvious play as a lefty vs. a lefty, but Mark Buehrle $6100 has a reverse platoon split and seems to be out of gas.
There’s no need to overpay at 2B. Kolten Wong $4000, Robinson Cano $3700 and 2B/3B Anthony Rendon $3700 are all worth the money.
Josh Donaldson $5800 loves to ambush fastballs and deserves top billing in a strong, deep group of 3B. Nolan Arenado $5200 is one of the best I’ve ever seen at his position. Rendon and 2B/3B Jonathan Schoop $4000 are decent alternatives.
I liked Carlos Correa $5000 last night against a much better lefty than Martin Perez $5500. If you can’t afford the Astros’ rookie, Francisco Lindor $4200 and 3B/SS Xander Bogaerts $4000 stand out.
Another day, another Mets win, another bomb for Yoenis Cespedes $5500. Feeling fine after leaving Sunday’s game, Bryce Harper $5900 hit #37 last night. Michael Brantley $5100 is consistent and the Indians are desperate. Lefty batters to use vs. Buehrle include Nick Markakis $3700, who knows the big southpaw well. Justin Ruggiano $2800 has been leading off vs. LHP and keeps producing. Jay Bruce $3400 costs less tonight after a Monday HR.
