Statistically, Russell Westbrook had one of the most unconscious years we’ve seen in some time last season. The point guard plays at a pace unmatched by anyone in the league, and was particularly aggressive once Kevin Durant was lost for the year due to a foot injury, averaging 28.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists.
Against the Minnesota Timberwolves in his first preseason game on Wednesday, Westbrook was at it again with the ridiculousness. In just 22 minutes, he had 14 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists. Here’s an even crazier stat: he had 11 of those assists in the third quarter alone (!).
Numbers like that with a terrific record will usually net you an MVP award, and Westbrook may just have a chance at it this year if he plays the way he did on Wednesday – even with former MVP Durant playing alongside him.
Brandon Jennings, who isn’t shy about expressing his thoughts on the greatness of certain players, couldn’t believe the numbers he saw from Westbrook and this to say:
Did Yall see Westbrook numbers tonight in 22mins. 14pts 8rebs 13assist. Mannnnn that’s 2k numbers
