Los Angeles Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks
Nov. 11, 2015
American Airlines Center (Dallas, TX)
“The Heart wants what it wants,” is a quote that perfectly describes DeAndre Jordan signing his new deal with the Los Angeles Clippers last offseason. But, Jordan eventually came to his decision at the expense of the Dallas Mavericks, who he had previously made contract negotiations with and was seen as a lock to make a deal with that would bring his talents to the Dallas. Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban along with Mavericks Small Forward, Chandler Parsons had been the strongest go-getters who were seeking out Jordan to bring him Dallas. After numerous meetings with Cuban and Parsons, it seemed that Jordan was going to be playing for Dallas next season. But to the shock of Cuban, Parsons, and the Mavericks, Jordan was having a change of heart at the last minute as he met with his current team, the Los Angeles Clippers. A cast of Clippers that included: Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, JJ Redick, Paul Pierce, Head Coach Doc Rivers, and Owner Steve Ballmer were at Jordan’s home right before the deadline to solidify Jordan would return to Los Angeles.
The cast of Clippers stayed at Jordan’s house until the deadline was over to make sure that he returned to Clippers and Jordan cut out all communication with Cuban and the Mavericks. Jordan had previously said, “something in my heart is telling me to meet with them [Clippers] again” and that feeling was then set in stone when Jordan signed a new contract with the Clippers. It’s safe to say that the Mavericks put forth their best effort in trying to bring Jordan to their team. Jordan could’ve been a big help to their squad, but just as before, he’s now the enemy. The Mavericks now have more motivation and fire when they go up against the Jordan and the Clippers. Both teams in the Western Conference are potential playoff contenders. The Mavericks will be looking to dominate against the Clippers and prove that they can do it without Jordan.
And the Clippers will be looking to prove that Jordan made the right decision in staying with LA. After the whole contract ordeal was finished, Jordan had sent a text to Parsons saying that he was resigning with LA and hoped they could “still be friends.” It’s safe to say that Parsons and the Mavericks will take this matchup personally. San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers
Nov. 11, 2015
Moda Center (Portland, OR)
Many people these days value loyalty. Loyalty is something that people hold can hold as one of their core values and loyalty is especially important to sports fans and sports organizations. But in many cases, once someone is disloyal to the team/organization, they may be hated and ridiculed from that point on.
Questions of disloyalty surrounded LaMarcus Aldridge as he signed with the San Antonio Spurs last season and left the Portland Trail Blazers. Aldridge entered the league with the Trail Blazers in 2006 and had been with the team until this year. Aldridge was a 4x NBA All Star and an All NBA Second Team selection with Portland. It seemed that Aldridge would be in with Portland for the long haul and could potentially be a rare case of staying in Portland his whole career because of how popular he was with the team.
But to everyone’s surprise, he chose not to return to Portland when he signed with the San Antonio Spurs. Questions swirled whether Aldridge will be appreciated in Portland for all the good he’s done for the franchise or if he’ll be despised for leaving the franchise. Tension will be high in this matchup which should prove to be very competitive and filled with emotion throughout. This matchup will be packed and can be hard to get tickets to, but on Rukkus, fans can see the cheapest offerings of tickets to this high profile game. New Orleans Pelicans vs. Atlanta Hawks
Nov. 11, 2015
Philips Arena (Atlanta, GA)
Anthony Davis is seen as the best young star the NBA has to offer. This dynamic 6’10” player has already been named to the All NBA team and named an All Star in his first 2 years in the league. Davis has such a high ceiling to grow and many believe that he has the potential to be the best player in the game in just a few short years. Davis is at the top of many people’s MVP list for this season and he will be the big spark that the Pelicans need if they want to further their success. Last season the Pelicans made the playoffs but were knocked out in the first round by the eventual champs, the Golden State Warriors.
With another offseason under their belt, Davis and the Pelicans will look to have playoff success similar to other teams like the Atlanta Hawks. With a talented roster that include: Kyle Korver, Jeff Teague, Al Horford, Paul Millsap, and many more, the Hawks have one of the best rosters in the NBA. In this matchup between Western and Eastern Conference, the Hawks will look to shut down Davis and Pelicans, but Davis has other plans as he wants to turn around the Pelicans season from their slow start. This hard fought game will be one that could be decided in the final seconds of the game and will be one to watch as this game is full of some of the NBA’s best.
