No matter what role he was given, Mario Chalmers never had doubt in his ability to be one of the better point guards in the league with the Miami Heat.
Unfortunately, he never was handed the keys to display what he could do while playing with ball-dominant stars like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. In fact, his role was largely limited to being a spot-up 3-point shooter and being a defender.
With the Memphis Grizzlies, it appears Chalmers will have more of an opportunity to handle the ball and control the offense off the bench. The Grizzlies desperately needed a spark after starting out the season on shaky grounds, and Chalmers has provided just that by scoring 18.7 points on 52.2 percent shooting from the field in his first three games with the team. He was particularly impressive in a 122-114 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, scoring a season-high 29 points on 6-of-13 shooting in just 23 minutes.
The Grizzlies are now 3-0 with Chalmers in the rotation, and his long-time teammate and friend Dwyane Wade couldn’t be happier:
Proud big bro iam. @mchalmers15 way to take that champion swagger to Memphis lil bro..
