For Ish Smith, it may have been music to his ears to hear that he was getting traded back to the Philadelphia 76ers on the day before Christmas.
With Jrue Holiday on a minutes restriction and other important players on the roster such as Tyreke Evans and Norris Cole out of commission to begin the season, Smith had been very productive with the New Orleans Pelicans in the month of November. Those players are now active, making Smith a seldom-used player. A move back to the 76ers means he can once again become a go-to playmaker of a team. For players like Smith who are simply looking for an opportunity to make a mark in the league, it’s probably an ideal situation.
It wasn’t all news full of opportunity, though, as it was announced that Tony Wroten would be released from the team to make room for Smith. Wroten recently came back from a knee surgery he had in February and hasn’t been effective on the floor.
Wroten took the news with class, but also let it be known that the 76ers messed up on this one:
Wanna thank the whole philly community, coaching staff, and all my teammates. Enjoyed my time in philly. Going to miss my guys.

But……. Will show them what mistake they’ve made. #SavageSzn
