It hasn’t been the smoothest ride as the new head coach of the Sacramento Kings for George Karl, but Monday’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder was a good reminder about the impact he has had over a very illustrious career.
The victory – the Kings’ 14th win of the season – gave Karl his 1,156th win, moving him past the great Phil Jackson to put him in sole possession of fifth place on the all-time NBA coaching wins list. Karl is just 65 wins away from matching Jerry Sloan for the third most wins of all-time. It’s an amazing feat for the coach who has overcome battles with cancer to be in this position.
Since taking the job in Sacramento, Karl has had issues with some players – DeMarcus Cousins in particular – as well as the front office. Despite being the coach of the team for less than half the season, his job security has already been in question a number of times. Still, Monday was a day to celebrate and Cousins was happy to congratulate his coach:

Interesting! I’ve been playing with acyveittstriams lately for the (i) task, but the (ii) task hadn’t occurred to me. I’m not sending the aggregated activitystreams to a calendar at all; I just show “recent events” or “all the interesting events on this date”. For one thing I’ll be able to mix in images or temperature plots more easily than if google calendar was my main display.
