Las Vegas is famous for many things – a city in the middle of the sand, night after night of solid entertainment and some of the hottest casinos this side of China. Believe it or not, the state of Nevada actually plays a pretty mean game of basketball, as shown by the fact that their university team is gunning for the Conference Title this weekend.
The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels are taking to the hardwood at Thomas & Mack Center in Vegas this Saturday, looking to show Conference Season Champions the San Diego State Aztecs what they’re made of. With the heat of the Mojave outside and the Conference Title at stake inside, this match is shaping up to be one of the hottest events in Vegas this January. The Runnin’ Rebels have their work cut out for them though – the San Diego State Aztecs didn’t just win the season championships in 2014, they won in 2014, 2012 and 2011, too. In fact, they have a habit of winning these seasons that goes back as far as 1923.
That being said, living life in Las Vegas means that the Runnin’ Rebels are no strangers to high stakes games. The University of Las Vegas where the tournament is being held is just 2 miles away from the infamous Las Vegas Strip, home to casino giants the Bellagio, Planet Hollywood and the MGM Grand. There’s no doubt that whether their team wins or loses, anyone heading to this high stakes game of basketball will be entertained all weekend. If you’re wondering how their (and your) luck will shape up as they tip off, now would be the time to go and check the horoscopes.
If you get the chance to head over to Vegas this weekend and want to support either the Runnin’ Rebels or the Aztecs, you can still grab the last few tickets online. No matter who you’re cheering for, make sure you take the opportunity to make the most of the nearby casinos – it would be a shame to get that close to The Strip and not see the sights the area is world-famous for. It also gives you the opportunity to put a small wager on the basketball game starts; just make sure you make it back to the Center for 5pm – those casinos have a funny way of making time disappear!
