It’s hard to believe that Stephen Curry could get any better than how he has played this season, but just when you think the superstar has reached a plateau, the level of play somehow goes up another notch.
That was the case coming into this season when he won the league’s MVP award last season. Most believed he couldn’t get much better than that, and we all know how that turned out.
Even coming into February, Curry was already blowing everyone’s mind averaging nearly 30 points per game – about six points better than last season. Seriously, there is no way he can improve from THAT. Right?
Wrong.
One thing Curry has been able to do throughout his career is elevate his level of play after the All-Star break, and he’s doing it again this year in a big way.
After taking a week off from the All-Star weekend (a fantastic schedule change by the league, by the way), Curry has averaged an unfathomable 36.6 points on 56 percent shooting from the field in five games for the Golden State Warriors. Oh, and he’s also making 6.2 3-pointers on 52.5 percent shooting, including a 40-footer and a half-court shot:
In the month of February, Curry is averaging 35.7 points on 54.5 percent shooting from the field, including 6.1 3-pointers on 50.5 percent shooting and 90 percent from the stripe, to go with 5.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.9 steals.
On Thursday against the Orlando Magic, he scored 51 points on 20-of-27 shooting from the field. He also hit 10 3-pointers, breaking Kyle Korver’s record for most consecutive games with a 3-pointer (Curry’s streak is at 128 games). He’s also the first player ever to score 51 points while attempting and making just one free throw in a game.
Curry was absolutely magical against the Magic on the road, and Kyle Lowry couldn’t help but react to what he was witnessing:
Smh… He’s broke the cheat code , he’s got his own code lol — Kyle Lowry (@Klow7) February 26, 2016
Here are some other reactions from around the association:
.@StephenCurry30 scored 51pts going 20-27 from the field. He’s the best athlete in America right now!

I didn’t think the Warriors could get the Bulls 72-10 record, now I think they will break that record and set a new one! — Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) February 26, 2016
If the Golden State Warriors play to their full potential, there’s no team that can beat them in a 7 game series in the playoffs.

When Curry is having one of his are-you-kidding-me nights, you’re seeing a player who doesn’t think. All instinct. https://t.co/416z5hlDD9
