A nine-game NBA Monday can’t match the real-life excitement of Saturday’s clash between Golden State and San Antonio. DraftKings spices things up with a huge fantasy contest that pays a guaranteed $500,000 in prize money to more than 140,000 winners, including a cool hundred grand for the top score. It’s worth four bucks to take your best shot.
The Warriors in Minnesota will be fast-paced, wide-open (the O/U is 231.5) and fun to watch. Stephen Curry $10300, Klay Thompson $6800 and Draymond Green $7800 will not lose two in a row. Marreese Speights $3900 had been hot prior to that last game when defense ruled. The great Karl-Anthony Towns $8400 just schooled Dwight Howard on the road — there’s no “wall” for this Rookie of the Year, who keeps betting better. Andrew Wiggins $6400, Gorgui Dieng $6200 and Zach LaVine $6100 are pretty good sophomores, too.
Indiana hosting the tired 76ers might be“too easy” — after Paul George $8600 scored 45 in a valiant losing effort against the Thunder, he can rely more on teammates this evening. Monta Ellis $6300, Myles Turner $4900 and George Hill $4800 also match up well, though garbage time could be a factor.
$500,000 Contest — Win $50,000 For $4
The $500K Four Point Play Championship is only a $4 buy-in, where the top 31,300 finishers (from up to 143,750 teams) win cash. First place earns $100,000. The deadline is 7:00 EST; enter early and make lineup changes until each player’s game begins.
The Celtics and Magic both played yesterday; Amir Johnson $4000, Avery Bradley $5000 and Marcus Smart $4300 were good value in an easy romp in Philadelphia, while we expect Orlando to be tired from an excellent effort in Toronto that fell just short. Local product Andrew Nicholson $3200 delighted his family and friends with another strong outing (15 PTS, 9 REB, 2 BLK in 21 minutes) and remains a bargain. Isaiah Thomas $7600, Evan Turner $5500 and Jared Sullinger $5500 complete a Boston stack if you’re so inclined.
Cleveland hosts Denver in the third games in four nights for LeBron James $9200, Kyrie Irving $7400 and Kevin Love $6700. Coach Tyronn Lue has to balance rest for his superstars with holding on to top seed in the East, with Toronto is now one game back. Less-expensive Cavaliers like Tristan Thompson $4500, J.R. Smith $4400 and Channing Frye $3600 can contribute. Affordable Nuggets with upside include Darrell Arthur $4100, D.J. Augustin $4700 and Jusuf Nurkic $3500.
We liked DeMarcus Cousins $10400 much more yesterday in New York than tonight in Chicago. Boogie had a monster double-double (24 PTS, 20 REB, 4 AST, 2 BLK) and Rudy Gay $6300 woke up, but the Bulls are locked in a tie for the final playoff spot. Derrick Rose $5800 and Jimmy Butler $7700 will do whatever it takes. If you can guess the hot hand(s) among Taj Gibson $5300, Nikola Mirotic $5200 and Bobby Portis $4500, the price is right.
Every game is a must-win for the Wizards, 1.5 games out of a playoff spot with two teams to pass. The Hawks are at home on a five-game roll, holding third seed in the East. John Wall $9600 is always hard to stop, but Atlanta is a deeper club with several affordable pieces. Paul Millsap $8200, Al Horford $6600 and suddenly-hot Tim Hardaway Jr. $3800 are all worth considering.
How often does anyone register the first triple-double of his career in his 16th season? What if he’d missed the previous seven games with a knee injury? That’s what Zach Randolph $6700 did on Saturday in a huge upset of the Clippers. Lance Stephenson $6500 is a new man with the Grizzlies and Matt Barnes $5800 (suspension) will be fresh. Tony Allen $4700 and Ray McCallum $3200 are other potential bargains in Phoenix. Brandon Knight $7100, Devin Booker $6500 and Tyson Chandler $5000 led the Suns to a road win on Friday and they upset Memphis a couple of weeks ago.
The Bucks were stifled at home by the Jazz defense and seem unlikely to bounce back on short rest. Andre Drummond $7600 and three other Detroit starters played less than 30 minutes on Saturday night as the bench scored 52 points to beat Brooklyn. Tobias Harris $6200, Reggie Jackson $6300 and Marcus Morris $5100 should be sharper.
While Charlotte usually plays well at home, this is a difficult challenge against a superb opponent. Kawhi Leonard $8300, LaMarcus Adridge $7500 and Tony Parker $4700 have won 14 of 15 and another victory tonight will be number 60, with 12 left to play. Gregg Popovich uses a deep, variable rotation if you can predict the hot hands.
