The 2013 summer of free agency has officially begun, and it has been a chaotic 24 hours, to say the least.
Players all around the league have been on the phone or traveling to find their next destination. The biggest name – Dwight Howard – is still in the process of meeting various teams, while the other big name in Chris Paul has already made the decision to stick with the Los Angeles Clippers. Those are just two of many, many updates about what has gone down so far. So without further ado, find all the news you can handle from Day 1 of free agency below (be prepared for the Woj Bombs):
- The Pelicans have made an offer to Tyreke Evans, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports: “The New Orleans Pelicans have made an offer to Sacramento Kings restricted free agent guard Tyreke Evans, two people familiar with the situation said Monday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the offer was supposed to remain private. Several media outlets reported the deal was for four years and ranging between $40 million and $48 million. Because he’s a restricted free agent, the Kings will have the opportunity to match any offers Evans signs. Contracts can’t be inked until July 10, after next season’s salary cap is set.”
- Boston is not planning on moving Rajon Rondo, according to Jimmy Golen of The AP: “Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge understands why other teams keep calling to see if he will tradeRajon Rondo… ”Maybe the assumption is that we’ll give away any of our players,” Ainge said on Monday, listing not just Rondo but Jeff Green, Courtney Lee, Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger and first-round draft pick Kelly Olynyk as players who have attracted interest. ”There’s been calls for all those guys. And maybe the assumption is we are just changing everybody, but we’re not. ”We’re starting to get younger.”
- Eric Maynor has signed on with the Wizards, from Michael Lee of Washington Post: “The Wizards have agreed to a deal with free agent point guard and former Virginia Commonwealth star Eric Maynor on a multi-year deal, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a two-year deal worth the bi-annual exception (roughly $2 million), with a player option on the second year. Maynor confirmed the agreement on Twitter: “I appreciate all the love n support y’all…..I’m excited to be signing wit the Wizards……

Mike Dunleavy will don a Bulls uniform next season, from Woj: “The Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement in principle on a two-year, $6 million deal with free agent Mike Dunleavy Jr., league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
One of the most pursued mid-level salary players on the free-agent market, Dunleavy, 32, has drawn interest from the likes of Minnesota, Houston and Dallas, sources said. Dunleavy played the past two seasons with the Bucks. Milwaukee had been engaged in sign-and-trade discussions with Minnesota that would’ve exchanged Dunleavy Jr., and Wolves guard Luke Ridnour, league sources said.”
