NEW YORK — LeBron James of Miami and the Utah Jazz’s Al Jefferson today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played Monday, April 16, through Sunday, April 22. James helped Miami to a 4-1 week, averaging 31.0 points on 58 percent shooting, while grabbing 7.5 rebounds and dishing out 5.5 assists per game. He did not play in Miami’s only loss of the week, an 86-84 defeat against Washington. He scored at least 25
How long should Metta World Peace be suspended for?
// csprtContainer(); // ]]> When I first saw Metta World Peace throw that elbow to James Harden’s head, I thought he would draw a two-game suspension at a minimum. In the 24 hours since, I have been wondering whether I set the bar too low. There was no word as of Monday afternoon from the league office on how long the former Ron Artest will be banned for his most egregious act since going into the stands and fighting fans during the infamous
D-League Finals are set: Austin vs. Los Angeles
The Los Angeles D-Fenders and the Austin Toros will meet in the 2012 NBA Development League Finals, with each game of the best-of-three series televised nationally on NBA TV. The 2012 Finals tip off on Tuesday, April 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET, when Austin, the No. 3 seed in this year’s NBA D-League playoffs, hosts Los Angeles, the top seed, at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas. The D-Fenders will then host the Toros for Game 2 on Thurs., April
Metta World Peace faces suspension for elbowing Harden’s head
What are you going to do, Stu? All eyes in Los Angeles and around the NBA will be on Olympic Tower in New York today, wondering how long Metta World Peace will be suspended for after he struck James Harden behind the ear with a vicious elbow that knocked the likely Sixth Man of the Year to the floor for a full minute. The initial guess here was 2 games, one of which would be a playoff game since the Lakers only have
“The Picker” returns, Gus Forrest picks again, too
“The Picker” is back from a two-day timeout after a run of bad picks dropped his record to 18-17-2. Gus Forrest subbed for the past two nights, going 2-1 both nights. Last night he hit the under on Heat-Wizards and Bucks-Nets and made a bad call with the under 189 1/2 on the Pacers-Sixers, which went to overtime and registered a 215. When Gus misses, he misses big. He has agreed to pick again tonight. But
Sheridan’s Sunday Power Rankings
Here they are, the last Power Rankings of the season. And I didn’t pull a Heisler and give five teams a No. 1 ranking — although I think we all understood his point when he did that last Wednesday. As painful as it is to write this, watch out for the Hawks and Pacers in the East. Yes, they aren’t all that fun to watch. But you may be watching both of them in the second round. The first round is shaping up
Gus Forrest, 2-1 Friday, subs for “the Picker” again
“I knew I shoulda bet against the Knicks. That was a sucker line — 10 point favorites” I have deleted the expletives from the above sentence, which was called in to the home office this afternoon by our gangster guest who is filling in for “The Picker” while he licks his wounds from his 18-17-2 record. That guest picker yesterday was Gus Forrest, who went 2-1 by correctly calling the under in the Oklahoma City-Sacramento game and the over in the Lakers-Spurs
Yet another D-League call up, the 58th
Meet D.J. Kennedy, NBA player. The Cleveland Cavaliers today signed the former St. John’s guard from the Erie Bayhawks, making him the 58th player called up from the D-League this season. Kennedy will be in uniform Sunday when the Cavaliers play the San Antonio Spurs. He started all 44 games for the BayHawks, averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals in 37.4 minutes, with eight double-doubles. He was a four-year player at St. John’s and went undrafted last June. When (if)
