I am on the Bulls bandwagon, I think they’ll play (and defeat) the Thunder or the Grizzlies in the NBA finals, I think the MVP debate is shaping up this preseason as a three-way race between Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Derrick Rose, and I’ve got Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats as my Rookie of the Year. The rest of the columnists at SheridanHoops.com will weigh in with their predictions tomorrow. Here is more on my 2011-12 season predictions: //
Nets acquire Okur from Utah after learning Lopez is out
Gotta hand it to Billy King. He moved fast on what had been a day of devastating news. The general manager of the New Jersey Nets reacted swiftly and may have gotten an unbelievable bargain by acquiring center Mehmet Okur from the Utah Jazz for the paltry price of a second-round draft pick. This came just a couple hours after the Nets announced that center Brook Lopez had suffered a stress fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his right foot that will
Wednesday night’s NBA highlights
By now you’ve probably heard that Kobe Bryant sat out last night’s game against the hallway rivals, the Clippers, because of a torn ligament in his right wrist. And surely y’all remember that cheap shot that Andrew Bynum delivered to J.J. Berea in last year’s playoff sweep, which resulted in a five-game suspension that Bynum will begin serving on Christmas Day. So the big guy is out until the new year, the Mamba is out until nobody knows when, and as Mark
NBA highlights from Tuesday night
The news of the night, aside from Rip Hamilton wearing red and white for the first time in his career, was that Stephen Curry sprained his ankle. From Matt Steinmitz of CSNBayArea.com: “Stephen Curry sprained his right ankle, the same ankle that was surgically repaired after last season, with less than a minute to play in the second half of the Warriors‘ final preseason game against the Kings. He was helped directly to the locker room and looked to be in considerable pain; he did
Last night’s NBA highlights
From Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times: “The Clippers had plenty of fun, turning an exhibition game into an exhibition. Chris Paul wore a Clippers uniform for the first time and had 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, showing why the Lakers wanted him too. Chauncey Billups also looked like a great pickup, scoring 23 points in 20 minutes after being claimed off waivers from New York last week. “It was a little extra for me personally,” said Paul, acquired from New
Odds and ends on slow day in NBA (unless D.Howard gets traded tonight)
Samuel Dalembert should have been signed by now. A shot-blocking and rebounding specialist, the 7-footer would figure to be in his demand simply because capable 7-footers are always seemingly in high demand. Dalembert had been in negotiations with the Houston Rockets, who have been trying to dig out of the rubble caused when commissioner David Stern dynamited their trade with the Hornets and Lakers, ruining their plans to field a front line of Pau Gasol and Nene. But now that the news
Exhibition game exhibitions and exhibits
They chanted “O-le, Ole Ole Ole” for Ricky Rubio in Minneapolis, and an M-V-P” chant was bestowed on — of all people — Renaldo Balkman of the Knicks at the Prudential Center in Newark. There was real basketball played Friday and Saturday around the NBA as the truncated preseason began, so let’s take a quick look at who was turning heads: SATURDAY: Knicks 92, Nets 83 With the off-the-court focus on whether Baron Davis will join the Knicks (or the Lakers, or the Heat)
Bad news for Celtics: Jeff Green out for season
Bad news — and scary news — out of Boston this afternoon as Jeff Green is out for the season with an aortic aneurysm. From Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe: The “aortic aneurysm was detected during his Dec. 9 physical. Green was examined by a series of cardiologists who suggested surgery. The Celtics said he should be able to resume his career next season. Green reached out on Twitter after the announcement. “Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers… much appreciated love
