Sleep deprivation and sofasores come with the territory at this time of year. If you live on the East Coast, like me, you sacrifice both your days and your nights to the basketball gods and pray that it’ll all be worth it. Last night, it was. With Tony Allen defending him and trying to force him to go left, Chris Paul went to his right anyway and sank the game-winning shot with one-tenth of a second left to give the Los Angeles
Sixth Man Voting: Smith got Twice as Many First-Place Votes as Crawford
NEW YORK — Well, you can’t exactly call it a landslide. But it certainly was a more decisive vote than many might have anticipated. J.R. Smith, who led all reserves in scoring, received 72 first-place votes to Crawford’s 31 in winning the NBA’s Sixth Man award Monday. Jarrett Jack of Golden State received 14 first-place votes and finished third. My vote went to Smith, who had seven 30-point games in which the Knicks went 5-2. Crawford scored 30 once — one of the deciding
Sheridan: 8 games, 7 stinkers. What does it mean?
What, you wanted eight games that were all as compelling as Warriors-Nuggets? OK, I was disappointed, too, especially on Sunday, with the lack of competitive Game 1s across the NBA. And the real bummer was that in the one game that was a nail-biter, the Warriors lost David Lee for the remainder of the postseason. The award for Most Snake-Bit NBA Player is hereby retired in his honor. So what will this week bring? First of all, Carl Landry (pictured to your left)
Podcast: What adjustments will Celtics and Bulls make?
What a weekend it was in New York! Two home playoff games on the same day, and we had one intrepid reporter, Moke Hamilton, covering them both. I invite you to read his first-hand column while listening to this interview with John Jastrewski of WFAN in New York. We stuck mostly with the Knicks and Nets, given the locale of the aforementioned radio station, but we hit on one other subject involving a former Knick — David Lee’s hip injury that will
David Lee Will Miss Remainder of Playoffs
Horrible news for the Golden State Warriors. The team announced today David Lee will miss the remainder of the 2013 NBA Playoffs due to a complete tear of his right hip flexor following an MRI that was conducted this morning. As we said in today’s morning roundup, sometimes something happens in a Game 1 that decides, for all intents and purposes, one particular series. Happens almost every year. Maybe this is that event. Lee, 29, registered 10 points and 14 rebounds in 29 minutes
Hubbard: Dreams Come True: We Have OKC-Houston
(Readers: This column was first published on March 9 with the title “Dreaming of OKC vs. James Harden.” Well, Mr. Hubbard’s dream has come to fruition, and Game 1 is tonight. Brace yourselves.-CS) The concept of payback often results in conflicting feelings. Revenge at its worst could be considered a character defect and something you would not teach your kids. But in the right context, proving someone made a mistake – payback – and doing it with class, can be delightfully rewarding.
Sheridan: What We Learned on Day One of Playoffs
Peeling oneself off the sofa was no easy task after a day and night spent sinking deeper and deeper into the upholstery. But the more you watched, the more you learned Saturday on Day One of the NBA Playoffs. Four lessons taken away: You do not want to have Draymond Green as your primary on-the-ball defender on the biggest play of the game – especially against a guy who has been in the league since Green was in diapers. You are in trouble
Sheridan: The NBA Champion Will Be …
… disclosed in this video. At least it’s my pick to win the championship — a team that lulled everyone into a false sense of serenity over the final 20 games of the regular season. And, no, it is not the Miami Heat. [Read more…]
