The 2011-12 NBA season not only will be labeled as lockout-shortened, but as a season in which injuries destroyed many teams—fantasy teams, that is. The first significant injury (Brook Lopez) was sustained before the season commenced. Since games tipped off Christmas Day, the list of impact fantasy players missing at least 20 percent of their team’s games due to injury has been epidemic, frustrating helpless fantasy owners to no end and reducing their chances of finishing “in the money.” By my count, 15

By Tommy Dee Special to SheridanHoops.com As college basketball surges towards March Madness, let’s take a scouting look at how the top 10 prospects are performing. 1. Harrison Barnes 6’8, 223, SF, North Carolina Lost in the hysteria of the Tar Heels’ loss to Duke at the buzzer thanks to an Austin Rivers 3 was the performance of Barnes, who was the best player on the floor all night. No, he didn’t close the game, but the UNC forward continues to show the take-over ability

J.R. Smith says he is signing with the Knicks, an there is an intriguing back story. On Thursday, Smith hopped a plane from China to LAX, arriving at the airport in the late afternoon, where he was intercepted, his camp said, by a representative for the Knicks. Smith was apparently headed later in the evening to Las Vegas, and according to a source in Smith’s family, the Knicks bought a ticket for their guy and sent him along, too. New York apparently

According to a source, the NBA is hoping to add Lin to its All-Star lineup by having him participate in the Haier Shooting Stars competition during All-Star Saturday night. The competition features one current NBA player, one current WNBA player and one TNT on-air talent and legend on each team. Lin would be the obvious choice, especially since he has become an overnight sensation. He is 5-0 as a starter and the Knicks have won six straight games since Lin became

Steve Nash, at 38, is about to play in his seventh career All-Star Game. 2012’s oldest NBA All-Star — he joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Karl Malone as the only All-Stars 38 years or older — is leading the league in assists (10.3 apg) and is third overall in field goal percentage (.563). Nash is on pace to lead the league in assists for the sixth time. Only Hall of Famer John Stockton has accomplished that feat, having led the NBA in that category nine times.
Kravitz: Fantasy Basketball All-Star Team, after Week 7
Over the past week the National Basketball Association announced its 2011-12 All-Star Game starters and reserves. Fantasy players shrugged. They are not interested in the obvious gems, they like diamonds in the rough. A universal trait among successful fantasy sports practitioners is separating real life player production from fantasy production. Anderson Varejao averaging a double-double in points and rebounds for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season had some teammates and media this past week mentioning him as All-Star-worthy. While Varejao’s real world All-Star
