In a terrific contest, LeBron James (37 PTS, 12 AST, 7 REB, 2 STL, 2 BLK) powered the Heat to their 23rd consecutive win, but it could have gone either way. Kevin Garnett (adductor) was unable to play, but in his place, Jeff Green had the game of his life — 43 PTS, 7 REB, 5 3PTM, 4 BLK — and the proud, stubborn Celtics almost sent it to overtime. Fantasy Spin: Heat Streak at 22; All Eyes on Boston Tonight
OK, consecutive win #22 is in the history books and Miami’s stars didn’t have to play huge minutes, so they should be ready to extend the streak in Boston. Dwyane Wade (24 PTS, 9 AST, 3 REB) and LeBron James (22 PTS, 12 REB, 8 AST, 2 STL) led the way as usual, with former Raptor star Chris Bosh chipping in 18 points and Ray Allen (20 PTS) draining four 3-pointers. Fantasy Spin: Aldridge (31) Keeps Blazers’ Playoff Hopes Alive; Hawes Leads Sixers
Another huge game by LaMarcus Aldridge (31 PTS, 12 REB, 3 AST) and another gutsy performance by Nicolas Batum (17 PTS, 6 AST, 5 REB, 3 BLK) led the Blazers, who remain alive for a playoff berth, though they are three games back with just 17 remaining. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Injured Kobe Inspires Lakers; Heat Win #21; Harden (37) Leads Rockets
Call it motivational, maybe even inspirational. On a severely sprained ankle, Kobe Bryant actually started and played 12 minutes, though he was scoreless and spent the rest of the game as a self-appointed assistant coach. Dwight Howard (20 PTS, 12 REB, 4 AST, 4 BLK) was a force, Steve Nash (15 PTS, 9 AST, 4 REB) played well and Metta World Peace (19 PTS, 7 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL) raised his game, but it was the Lakers’ bench that made

Fantasy Spin: Lakers Lose Game and Bryant; 20 Wins and Counting for Heat
It was a disastrous evening for the Los Angeles Lakers. Not only did they come up four points short in a must-win game, they lost Kobe Bryant to an ankle injury in the final seconds. Bryant (31 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST, 2 STL) is very unhappy with Dahntay Jones over the play and there are no details yet about a recovery timetable, but it’s being called a severe sprain and he’s out indefinitely. Fantasy Spin: Howard (39) Triumphant in Orlando Return; Spurs & Celtics Barely Show Up
Yesterday we told you the NBA silly season has already begun. Any lineup is possible for any team; logic and past performances, while never infallible predictive tools, mean less and less each week until the playoffs begin. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Spurs Silence Thunder; Kyrie Irving Out For Weeks
It’s that time of year in fantasy hoops. When a player gets injured, there’s a risk of them being shut down entirely. I happened to be at the game where Kyrie Irving got hurt, and after he shot two free throws — using only his ‘wrong’ hand — stood to applaud his exit without knowing that a sprained left shoulder will keep him out for the next month, if not the rest of the year.
