Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are used to contending for championships, but through five games the team is tied with the Philadelphia 76ers (0-6) for the fewest wins in the league — zero. Bryant’s disdain for losing and the struggles of the Lakers prompted an interesting question: Would the Lakers and Knicks benefit from a trade involving Bryant? New York has Phil Jackson, the Triangle offense and cap space to absorb Bryant’s contract and the Lakers aren’t going to contend
Photo of the Day: Pau Gasol Spends Time With Rocky in Philly
Chicago Bulls big man Pau Gasol has helped the team get off to a quick start, going 4-1 in their first five games. The Spaniard was the key free agent signing the team made over the summer to help solidify an already solid frontcourt with Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson. Gasol had a busy summer. He signed with the Bulls after leaving behind Kobe Bryant in LA, and was also a member of Spain’s National Team that played in the FIBA
Photo of the Day: Raptors to Wear Purple Throwbacks from Inaugural Season
In a year full over new jerseys, new court designs and new replay centers, the Toronto Raptors decided to bring back something from the past to change things up a bit. The old school jerseys they haven’t worn in more than 15 years will come out of the closet for a matchup on Friday, November 7th when the Washington Wizards travel up north. The Raps will wear the original road purple unis for the first time since May 4, 1999.
Scotto: Is Andrew Wiggins The Next Paul George?
BROOKLYN – Andrew Wiggins grew up watching Vince Carter during his “Air Canada” days, back when Tracy McGrady was also with the Toronto Raptors, showing his early flashes of stardom. The phenom drew comparisons to both former Toronto players as ceilings for his development when he entered the NBA draft. However, a handful of games into his NBA career, the 19-year-old has drawn numerous comparisons to Paul George in recent conversations with several league general managers, executives and scouts. On top of them, Anthony Morrow, Jeremy Lamb and Andre Roberson are all out with injuries. When Jones III went down yesterday, the Thunder were down to only seven healthy players that dressed and were able to play. [Read more…]
J.R. Smith suspended one game for striking Glen Rice Jr. in the groin
Add this to the list of J.R. Smith suspensions. The New York Knicks guard was suspended one game by the league for “striking” the groin of Washington Wizards reserve forward Glen Rice Jr. on Tuesday night. He will miss Wednesday night’s game against Detroit. Rice Jr. was actually called for the foul on the play, but the Wizards ended up winning the game 98-83. The league may have deemed Smith’s transgression an intentional one based on his notorious track record Smith was suspended
Photo of the Day: The Dallas Mavericks Version of Run DMC
Chandler Parsons seems to be enjoying the short amount of time he’s spent in Dallas as a member of the Mavericks. Even though he’ll be paying for dinner on their road trips, he’s been fitting in quite well in his new digs. Parsons, along with Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis, has Dallas starting off the season on the right foot, who sit at 3-1 on the year after the one-point loss to San Antonio on the first night of the
Lionel Hollins commands Brooklyn Nets’ respect
Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has never met his new head head coach, but Lionel Hollins already has the respect and attention of both players and management. “We have a very strong experienced coach,” Prokhorov told reporters before Monday night’s home opener against Oklahoma City, a game in which the Nets would win by 31. In speaking with various Nets players and a coaching peer, it’s apparent that Hollins’ demanding, honest, no-nonsense style sits well with the players and is a nice
