The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is quite captivating. Today, perhaps, more than any other for American fans. Just hours before the NBA Draft makes headlines across the nation, the United States Men’s National Team faced their biggest game early in the world’s largest sports tournament. They faced Germany, currently ranked No. 2 in among all teams. A win or tie and America would advance. A loss, however, could open a couple possibilities. [Read more…]
Photo of the Day: Marcin Gortat Spotted Walking Pet Pig
Ladies and gentlemen, an early front-runner for Photo of the Year has emerged. In the world of sports, there are times in which athletes transcend the court and build aspects of their legacy off of it. The most growing trend in the NBA is for players to utilize fashion and endorsement deals to steal headlines and remain relevant. Marcin Gortat just one-upped them all. Rather than wearing capris or creating an energy drink, Gortat decided to do something that’s more true to his character. Something that’s… Admittedly, I’ve
SH Blog: Three Trades Shake Up the Western Conference
It’s not even July yet. In the first of two homecomings, Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports reports that the Orlando Magic have sent shooting guard Arron Afflalo to the Denver Nuggets for Evan Fournier and the No. 56 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. This will be Afflalo’s second stint with the Nuggets after playing three seasons in Denver from 2009 to 2012. As for Fournier, the 21-year-old will enter an Orlando backcourt that should provide more playing time than Denver’s. During his three seasons

Photo of the Day: The Woes of the No. 2 NBA Draft Pick
Beware of the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft. With mere days separating the association from its annual selection process, the official NBA Instagram account recapped one of the most important picks of all: No. 2. It showed each and every one of the players selected at that position of the draft dating back to 2005. After 2007, you’re looking at a slippery slope. 2006 featured All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge ultimately ending up with the Portland Trail Blazers, while 2007 resulted in
Schayes: The NBA Draft, Back in the Day
With the NBA draft coming up, it is kind of fun to remember back to my draft day in 1981. It’s like going through your wedding album years later. But instead of the burgundy tuxedo and ruffled shirt, its 1980s hair and wide ties. Going into my senior year at Syracuse, I was a relatively unknown player. I had played behind All-American center Roosevelt Bouie and had just played my first season as the starter. Scouting was primitive by today’s standards.
