New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith is always battling slanderous tweets directed towards him, and never fails to bring it up after the conclusion of a game – especially when the team loses, as it did on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors. Smith scored a team-high 26 points on eight-of-17 shooting – a strong effort by the guard, who had to carry the load for an offensively futile night for the Knicks, as they shot just 35 percent as a team.
On the heels of Monday night’s 91-94 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, the Boston Celtics have been hit with more bad news. Backup guard Leandro Barbosa injured his knee in the third quarter and had to be carried off of the court. An MRI on Tuesday revealed that he did, in fact, tear his ACL, and will now miss the rest of the season. Jared Sullinger, whose season ended recently after undergoing surgery on his back, tweeted words of encouragement to his teammate.
The Boston Celtics are winners of seven straight no more. Coming off an exhilarating 118-114 triple-overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, the Celtics could not muster enough energy to overcome the domination of Charlotte Bobcats center Byron “don’t call me B.J.” Mullens on Monday night. Mullens – who has been on a roll with averages of 17.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and two 3-pointers in five February games – had his best all-around performance of his career with 25 points, 18
