The New York Knicks have been all over the map for much of this season, going from bad to worse to practically unwatchable. By early March, they held a miserable 21-40 record and drained the life out of even the most optimistic fans. It appeared they were simply too far back to gain ground to make the playoffs at that point of the season. But then again, we are talking about one of the most comical conferences the league has seen

Tuesday night’s showdown between the Knicks and Lakers was a bit one-sided. The New York Knicks, who had been surging towards the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a recent string of eight straight wins, have (seemingly) fallen flat on their faces. If their recent fourth-quarter collapse against the hapless (and Kyrie Irving-less) Cleveland Cavaliers wasn’t bad enough, they travelled to Los Angeles for a shellacking at the hands of the short-handed Lakers. The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed two of the sport’s all-time greats as part of its 2014 class on Tuesday. Four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal and two-time NCAA champion Grant Hill joined Darrell Griffith at the top of a very unique and diverse class. The induction ceremony, which will be held in November, will also see Zelmo Beaty, an NAIA star at Prairie View A&M. The South Region No. 2 Seed Kansas Jayhawks suffered a frustrating loss at the hands of the Stanford Cardinal in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 57-60. The Rock Chalk, Jayhawk faithful were disappointed to witness star freshman Andrew Wiggins fall short of expectations. Hoisting a mere six shots and making only one, he finished the contest with a dismal four points. The Stanford Cardinal out-rebounded Kansas 37-35, which may not be terrible, however they also outscored the Jayhawks 30-20
The NCAA tournament has given us plenty to talk about after its first weekend. We’ve been treated to six overtime games (the tournament record is seven), big time upsets (Duke, Syracuse and Kansas all failed to win more than one game) and memorable finishes (ask THE University of Dayton). But between all of the madness that has commenced this week, one game has managed to stand above the rest: No. 8 seed Kentucky vs. No. 1 seed Wichita State. [Read more…]
