Highlight Performance: Kevin Love MIN– There is simply nothing this man cannot do from a basketball standpoint. Standing at a relatively small 6”10, the All-Star power forward is an absolute rebound machine, as well as a deadly scorer from every spot on the court. Last night was a perfect example, as he scored 32 points, and ripped down 21 rebounds. He became the franchise leader with his 6th 30-20 game of the season, passing Kevin Garnett. When Love is on, he’s
The Bernucca List — Interloper Edition
These quizzes have become a hit on Wednesdays. In researching today’s Power Rankings, I came upon a peculiarity that merited an extra list. (Bernucca doesn’t know I’m doing it.) Our readers are smart, and someone will nail this almost instantly. But … To quote Bernucca, who wrote another meritorious Sunday notes column, be specific in your answer. Or to better quote Bernucca (those who know him will appreciate this): “BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR ANSWER!!!!” The winner will be acknowledged via Twitter. Eligibility is limited to those
Tonight’s best game: Chicago at Boston
The Chicago Bulls finish their season-high nine-game road trip with a flourish. After trampling doormats New Jersey, New Orleans and Charlotte, the Bulls test their 6-2 road record against the Boston Celtics in Sunday’s best game, a matinee affair. Unfortunately, after Saturday’s spectacular point guard matchup between youngsters Jeremy Lin and Ricky Rubio, the second act pitting established stars Derrick Rose against Rajon Rondo may have to wait. Rose aggravated his back against the Nets on Monday, forcing him to sit out
Sheridan’s Sunday Power Rankings
Jeremy Lin had a nice week, to put it mildly. Nobody in New York talks about Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire anymore. So they Knicks are biggest risers in this week’s rankings, right? Wrong. (The Mavericks and Rockets are). Let’s see how Lin’s game works when the max-paid ball stopper and Mr. Apostrophe return. I’m all for the Linsanity, and Friday night was the first time in eons Kobe didn’t receive the most adulation in his annual visit to MSG. But let’s not get
Bernucca: Where does Pierce rank among all-time Celtics?
Is Paul Pierce part of the Boston Celtics’ all-time team? On Tuesday, Pierce passed Larry Bird on the team’s career scoring list, moving into second place for the most historic franchise in the NBA. He is creeping up on 22,000 career points and still going strong. Pierce has a ways to go to catch Celtics all-time leader John Havlicek, whose total of 26,395 is even more remarkable when you consider he began his career as a sixth man. If Pierce passes Havlicek
Jeremy Lin for the win; Mavs down Blazers in double OT
Five games in seven nights. Five wins. 26.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 2 steals per game. Most points for any player in his first four starts since the ABA/NBA merger, surpassing Allen Iverson. Thus ended one of the most improbably historical weeks the NBA has ever witnessed. And to cap it, Jeremy Lin, for the win. In a much anticipated matchup between two of the most up-and-coming point guards in the league, Lin ended his Cinderella week by holding off Ricky

Cavs’ Varejao out with broken wrist
Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao is out indefinitely with a broken wrist. The team announced Saturday that Varejao had an MRI on Saturday at the Cleveland Clinic that revealed a non-displaced fracture of his right wrist. He will undergo further tests this week to determine a timeline for his return. Varejao suffered the injury early in the third quarter of Friday’s home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He left the game and did not return. It is the second straight season Varejao has
