Guys were losing their cool all over the league Saturday night. Coaches, players, winners, losers – it didn’t matter. Things got out of control in Utah, Minnesota and Indiana, and fines and suspensions should be coming. Let’s start in Salt Lake City, where Lakers coach Mike Brown totally lost it in the fourth quarter of a 96-87 loss to the Jazz. LA trailed, 72-68, and Pau Gasol had possession at the top of the circle. Utah guard Earl Watson came from his blind
Fantasy Spin: Saturday, Feb. 4
Highlight Performance: Anthony Morrow, NJ– Everybody knew Morrow was going to get some serious minutes, following injuries by MarShon Brooks (Broken Toe) and DeShawn Stevenson (Swollen Knee). We also understood that he can hit some 3 pointers, which is his main source of production. However, Friday Night Morrow went ballistic, scoring 42 points, and hitting an absurd 8-11 shots from long range. Nights like these are not to be expected often from Morrow, although with a such a heavy dose of
Tonight’s best game: Philadelphia at Atlanta
In a stacked 13-game appetizer for tomorrow’s Super Bowl, two playoff-bound teams look to bounce back from uninspired losses when the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. On Friday, the Sixers (16-7) fell to Miami for the second time this season, 99-79. Philadelphia proved it can hang with big boys by beating contenders Orlando and Chicago earlier this week, but Thaddeus Young’s 18 points weren’t enough to keep up with the Heat in the Sixers’ third straight tough game. After a
Kravitz: Fantasy Basketball, Potential Saviors after Week 6
Accruing talent for your fantasy hoops squad is a threefold process: draft, trades and free agent acquisitions. A combination of guile (waiting on that player you covet to drop in the draft; buying low, selling high with trades) and good fortune (grabbing Ricky Rubio in the 13th round) is necessary in each. Hopefully you spent ample time preparing for and had a successful draft, as it is the foundation for an owner with hopes of finishing “in the money.” Don’t hold your
Zagoria: Nerlens Noel’s reclassification will impact 2013 NBA Draft
It is entirely possible that a decision announced this past week at a small boarding school in New Hampshire will have a profound impact on the 2013 NBA Draft. Nerlens Noel, a 6-foot-10 shot-blocker who has been compared to Bill Russell and Anthony Davis, announced that he would reclassify to the high school Class of 2012 from the Class of 2013. “I’m ready to do it,” Noel, out of The Tilton (N.H.) School, told Dave Telep of ESPN.com in reference to reclassyifying.
Hawks lose Jason Collins for two weeks
The Atlanta Hawks are running out of centers. Already without Al Horford – perhaps for the rest of the season – the Hawks announced Saturday morning that veteran center Jason Collins will miss at least two weeks with a sprained left elbow. Collins suffered the injury in Thursday’s loss to Memphis, which dropped Atlanta to 9-3 since Horford went down with a torn pectoral muscle. Horford is not expected back until mid-April. Collins was averaging 1.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.0 minutes.
Gibson: Euroleague update: For Cantu, Doron Perkins Is a Risk Worth Taking
BARCELONA — This Thursday in Israel could mark Doron Perkins’ first Euroleague game in over 10 months. As far as Perkins is concerned, it couldn’t come in a better place; Tel Aviv’s Nokia Arena has been home to many of Perkins’ finest moments with Maccabi. Only this Thursday, he might be sliding into his socks in the visitor’s locker room as a member of Bennet Cantu, a team that bested Maccabi 82-74 Thursday. Let’s rewind a bit. Last March in a playoff series
Kenyon Martin signs with Clippers
LOS ANGELES — The Clippers just got even better. Unexpectedly given early freedom after an abbreviated stint in the Chinese Basketball Association, Kenyon Martin signed Friday night with the Pacific-Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers. “Kenyon is the ultimate competitor and a key acquisition,” stated Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. “We expect that he will provide additional experience, passion and professionalism, as well as some important depth to our front court.” Martin, 34, has played in 654 career NBA games with the New
