Showing the Thunder is truly on its way, they just rose to to No. 1 in the prestigious SheridanHoops power rankings (Wednesday edition) for the first time! Of course, we’ve only been doing our rankings for a few weeks, but it’s still a good sign. It’s also in keeping with today’s “No season for young men” theme, in which we note the impact of jamming 66 games into 123 days on older players, as in “I just ran down here, now I’m
‘Bron gone wild, and we’re right on Dwight
// Right about the time “Glee” was airing on Fox, Heat haters up and down the Eastern time zone were experiencing some unbridled glee of their own. The Heat were riding a three-game losing streak, Dwyane Wade was “celebrating” his 30th birthday by wearing a suit and nursing a sprained ankle, and Miami was being manhandled at home by San Antonio, digging itself a 17-point first-half hole. “Glee” ended on Fox at 9 p.m., right around the time the glee ended for
More on Dwight Howard and the Clippers
Dwight Howard said “No” last night when he was asked if he now has interest in playing for the Los Angeles Clippers. The key word in that question is “now.” Because right now, he wants to play for the New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks or Los Angeles Lakers — and the Lakers are a distant third on that list. The Clippers would be something to consider if circumstances over the next several months make those first three destinations unattainable, and as I
Fantasy Spin: Tuesday, Jan. 17
Highlight Performances: Chris Bosh, MIA– With Dwayne Wade out with an ankle injury, Chris Bosh figures to be the the primary beneficiary. He and James are the main options from this point, and it showed Tuesday Night. Bosh produced 30 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Although having nights like this on a regular basis seems unlikely, he figures to see a spike in production for the time being. Performances to Forget: Richard Jefferson, SA– Jefferson has been having a solid
Where will Steve Nash play next season?
Steve Nash is on an expiring contract with a bad team. One day, he will join the ring of honor in Phoenix. But he also still has a couple good years left in him, and it would not surprise me in the least if he joined the New York Knicks next season, signing for the mid-level exception. Nash loves New York, lives there in the offseason and even plays in a recreational soccer league in Central Park. I discussed that possibility today with Brad Cesmat
Tonight’s best game: LA Clippers at Utah
On March 20, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq. On Dec. 18, 2011, the last American troops withdrew. And during that entire time, the Los Angeles Clippers never won a game in Utah. The last time the Clippers won in Salt Lake City was Jan. 2003. They will be riding a 16-game road losing streak to the Jazz when they visit Wednesday night. LA doesn’t do too well vs. Utah at home, either. The Clippers have lost 10 of the last 11 meetings
Perkins: Dwyane Wade needs an extended rest
MIAMI – Dwyane Wade, sprained ankle and all, had his fun. Now it’s time to rest. Over the weekend, Wade, the Miami Heat’s superstar guard, celebrated his 30th birthday with a party at the Setai Hotel on South Beach. Several teammates were there – LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem among them – and hip-hop artists TI, Common and Rick Ross performed. Wade, whose actual birthday is today, also received a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C automobile, which is valued at about $230,000.
Bostjan Nachbar Has a New Job in Russia
BARCELONA — Toronto, New Jersey or Detroit. Those were several destinations on Bostjan Nachbar’s radar when he spoke to Sheridan Hoops in Lithuania this past September. But Nachbar’s newest employers are not in the Eastern Conference; they are in western Russia. UNICS Kazan announced today that the 31-year-old Slovenian forward had signed on for the rest of the season. Kazan will play its first Euroleague Top 16 game this Wednesday against Fenerbahce Ulker, and they hope Nachbar’s vast NBA and international experience can
