The weekend came, bringing with it the Saturday All-Star festivities, headlined by the Dunk Contest. There was a significant amount of hype for Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Zach LaVine heading into the Sprite All-Star Dunk Contest. Anyone that has seen him play knows that he has freakishly athletic hops. For those who have witnessed his athleticism, it came as no surprise that he would win the contest. [Read more…]
Isaiah Thomas Addresses Goran Dragic Trade Rumors
With Thursday’s NBA trade deadline quickly approaching, one of the bigger names who’s rumored to be dealt is Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic. Despite Phoenix clinging to a half-game lead over Oklahoma City for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, the Suns reportedly may want to deal Dragic, who’s an unrestricted free agent after the season. The Lakers, Rockets and other teams have been trying to persuade the Suns to deal Dragic, according to an ESPN.com report
Photo of the Day: Russell Westbrook, “Fashion King”
Regardless of the title of this Photo of the Day, Russell Westbrook is not the fashion king. I’m sorry to say it, because I like Westbrook as a player, but this can’t be how a so-called “fashion king” should dress. With all of the celebrities and activities and events in New York this weekend, and being the first night of the festivities, Russ was in the fashion capital of America for this photo, and will be the entire weekend. So, look
EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Wiggins “Most Likely” To Play for Canada in Olympics Qualifier
BROOKLYN — Andrew Wiggins will “most likely” play for Team Canada in this summer’s FIBA-Americas Olympic qualifying tournament, a huge piece of positive news for a Canadian federation that has been hoping and praying that the NBA’s most exciting rookie will play for his national team. Wiggins gave me the “most likely” quote as he warmed up for the Rising Stars challenge Friday night at the Barclay’s Center. When I pressed him and asked it he was 100 percent in, he hedged
Dell Curry says Stephen Curry is not even close to reaching his full ceiling as a player yet
NEW YORK — Former NBA player Dell Curry was on hand at the All-Star interview session on Friday to answer a number of questions about superstar Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and the proud father had plenty to say about the growing game of his son. Asked what his son got from him and what’s different between the two, Curry said “there’s a lot that’s different” with a big laugh. “I’d like to think he got the shooting touch from his dad,
Rookie Rankings, Week 14: McGary Gives Thunder a Bolt of Energy
Mitch McGary was unexpectedly thrown into the spotlight this week. He’s going to be there a while. The burly rookie forward of the Oklahoma City Thunder had spent most of his first NBA season recovering from injuries while toiling in the D-League. Prior to Sunday, he had played just eight minutes over two games this season while averaging 14.7 points and 7.8 rebounds in eight games for the Blue, Oklahoma City’s affiliate. But on Sunday, the Thunder were hosting the Los Angeles
Eisenberg: How do these Hawks compare with the 2004 Pistons?
If you were to browse through the list of NBA champions since 1980, you’d find that there is just one notable outlier to the rule that suggests title contenders need a superstar to win it all — the 2003-04 Pistons. While that Detroit team featured four players who were either already multi-time All-Stars or went on to become multi-time All-Stars later in their careers, no one would have mistaken any of those Pistons players as the prototypical “superstars” entering the 2004 postseason. Three-point shootout set to be amongst the best ever
The Sprite Dunk Contest has been the headline maker for many seasons, but in 2015, it’s fair to say it is the Three-Point Contest that is the more exciting event. Amidst a campaign that has showcased several all-time great shooting performances from long distance, and features two conference-leading teams that live by the three, it is the long ball showdown that will be most worth watching. The excitement starts with Kyle Korver, the late-addition All-Star who leads the NBA in three-point
