Which player is the most consistent winner for his own team in NBA history? That is the question I asked myself a couple of years ago, in February 2007 to be precise. In an effort to find an answer, I decided to rank all NBA “franchise players” since the 1979-80 season. This winter, I updated the research, taking into consideration every player that has played in the NBA. [Read more…]
Harden a 14-1 pick to be All-Star MVP in Houston

HOUSTON — Who will be the MVP of the 2013 All-Star Game? The oddsmakers are seriously down on Tim Duncan, who may not even play, but they are offering a couple of value bets, too. If I was a gambler (which I am not, unless we are talking poker), I’d take a flyer on James Harden of the Houston Rockets, who will be playing on his home court and will be the only player with a majority of the crowd behind him. It’s the 13th day of 2013. Anybody need a primer on Triskaidekaphobia? Not that we claim to be ahead of the curve here, but we did have Rudy Gay in the MVP rankings this past Sunday. And he made us look smart last night with a buzzer-beater against the Raptors for Toronto’s third straight W. Riddle me this: If I were to ask you which NBA team could eviscerate the leagues most respected defense, the Chicago Bulls, for 103 points – an offensive efficiency that’s seven points higher than the average mark of the league leading Oklahoma City Thunder – a handful of teams might come to mind. On the heels of Monday night’s 91-94 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, the Boston Celtics have been hit with more bad news. Backup guard Leandro Barbosa injured his knee in the third quarter and had to be carried off of the court. An MRI on Tuesday revealed that he did, in fact, tear his ACL, and will now miss the rest of the season. Jared Sullinger, whose season ended recently after undergoing surgery on his back, tweeted words of encouragement to his teammate.
