Heat, Lakers favored to reach NBA Finals

In what comes as no surprise at all, the defending champion Miami Heat and the loaded Los Angeles Lakers are favored to reach the NBA Finals. Gaming site Bovada.lv released its odds for winning the championship and has the Heat at 11-5 and the Lakers slightly higher at 5-2. Miami has reached the Finals each of the last two years, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games last season. Los Angeles has not reached the conference finals since it last won

Mavs lose to Barcelona; Brand 3 rebs in 32 mins; R.Lopez busts out

It was not a good day for the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki was scratched with “swelling and soreness” in his knee and the team lost by 14 to FC Barcelona Regal in Spain. OJ Mayo missed all seven of his shots, Brandan Wright went 1-7 and Vince Carter 2-7; Elton Brand played 32 minutes as the emergency starter, for a modest 10 points and 3 rebounds. Chris Kaman was their best player, with a solid double-double. Stay tuned for updates on Nowitzki.

Tracy McGrady has officially signed with a team in China for the upcoming season, which means his mostly illustrious 15-year career as an NBA player has – for the time being – come to a close. For those of us that remember the days when McGrady’s level of play was at least on par with that of Kobe Bryant, this appears to mark the end of a journey that promised great things but was too often hindered by health issues.
