The NBA trade deadline journalism racket is a tricky minefield to navigate. The business is driven by rumors, many of which are founded in truth, others of which are utterly fictitious. Distinguishing between the two differentiates the good basketball Web sites from the bad sites. But figuring out who is available is not rocket science if you speak to the right people, and I speak to a lot of plugged-in people on a regular basis. Here is the latest they are telling me:
Fantasy Spin: Lakers Heating Up As Kobe Shoots Less, Passes More
Just call him Magic. Kobe Bryant (14 PTS, 11 AST, 8 REB) no longer cares about the scoring title, he wants to make the playoffs. In his fantastic career, Kobe has never dished out 39 assists in three games before, and L.A. has won all three. [Read more…]
DraftStreet Diary: It’s a One-Day Season; Anything Can Happen
Lessons learned on Monday? 1) You can’t win the $1,000 Survivor tournament if you get knocked out the first night. 2) Never be ‘sure’ about players. I ‘loved’ Al Jefferson; thought he’d shoot over and duck under Omer Asik with ease. Paul Millsap was another ‘lock,’ as I thought the Jazz would win 115-110 or thereabouts. They got blown out by 45, which never happens in Utah.
DraftStreet Diary: Trying a $1,000 Survivor Tournament
It’s a new week, with the bankroll reset to $100, and a $25 profit in the books from last week. The main focus of this daily feature is Salary Cap leagues, but we have had some success in Pick ‘Em contests and I really enjoy live Snake drafts when time permits. [Read more…]
The Bernucca List – Edition 40
Alex C. is one of the many Sheridan Hoops readers who make this site possible. We have a number of interactive features on Sheridan Hoops. One of them is this one – The Bernucca List, which tests the NBA knowledge of our readers in what we think is a fun way. Alex C. nailed the correct answer to last week’s list, which was “Players who have finished second in MVP voting multiple times.” Everyone on the list finished second at least twice;
DraftStreet Diary: New Fantasy Hoops Leagues Every Day
Thanks to the 795 readers who tried their luck and tested their skill in the $300 Sheridan Hoops Freeroll last night. Kudos to “bigshot118” who avoided the highest-priced players and got huge nights from Paul George and Jrue Holiday to win the $100 first prize. [Read more…]
Durant (52) & Westbrook (31) Stay Hot; Holiday (33) On Fire
It took overtime, 52 points from Kevin Durant and 31 by Russell Westbrook to finally subdue the Mavericks. KD’s career high came on 13-for-31 shooting, so it wasn’t a marvel of efficiency. Serge Ibaka (11 PTS, 14 REB, 2 BLK) played almost 45 minutes. [Read more…]
Clippers Maul Grizzlies; Durant & Westbrook Combine for 77 Points
Go figure. You take the great Chris Paul (kneecap) out of the Clippers lineup and they drop 99 on a very good defensive team. Eric Bledsoe (14 PTS, 4 AST, 3 REB, 2 STL) did a fine job filling in at PG and that talented L.A. bench did the rest, with 16 apiece from Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford. [Read more…]
