Many fans don’t put much stock in the NBA preseason for some reason, and it’s something that I’ve always found puzzling. Like any good book, the preseason can provide a table of contents for the upcoming season with many interesting details and storylines. For me, it’s always about development and which players are in the right situations at the right time. On top of that, it’s seeing if they know that situation and if they are prepared to own it. I’ve taken
SH Blog: Shaq and Barkley criticize Howard’s game, CP and Redick patch differences
You know the regular season is upon us when the TNT crew starts sharing their thoughts on who is primed to succeed and what teams will be most relevant in the upcoming season. Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Kerr and others had plenty to say about a number of topics with USA Today, and that’s where we’ll kick things off in today’s blog. Story of the day: Which team is good enough to take on the Heat this season? Barkley shared his
Tweet of the Day: NBA Players All Atwitter For NBA 2K14
Tuesday brings forth, for many teams, the opening of practice. For many players, however, it brings with it the joy of gaming. NBA 2K14 is now in stores, and many of the league’s athletes already have a copy, thanks in large part to Ronnie2K. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Night: Andre Drummond surprises server with a $100 tip
Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond has taken quite a liking to interacting with fans on social media over the summer. Aside from following thousands of fans on twitter, he has also opened up a youtube account to make entertaining clips for fans, along with a facebook page to post thoughts and videos you wouldn’t find anywhere else. On Thursday, he continued reaching out by having dinner with random fans at an Applebees restaurant, which is a very friendly gesture from any professional athlete:
Tweet of the Night: Andre Drummond excited about playing pickup games with his team
For the up-and-coming 20-year-old center Andre Drummond, the past summer has been quite eventful. For one, he was able to use his star power on twitter to lure in mega-Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy. She actually wrote an article about how the two ended up dating each other, and it is well worth a read. Then, of course, there is the basketball side of things. After going through a tough rookie season in which the Detroit Pistons struggled to a 29-53 record, he
SH Blog: McGee says only his coach can stop him, Rivers says Perkins trade was a mistake
When you think of the top three goofiest players in the NBA today, JaVale McGee is probably the first name that most people can come up with. It can’t be helped: the guy made it to Shaquille O’Neals’ “Shaqtin’ A Fool” segment on TNT almost every other week last season. If you think that’s an exaggeration, just watch this clip. Admittedly, Shaq did unnecessary pick on him at times, but mostly, it was warranted. Despite what we’ve been conditioned to believe,
Tweet of the Day: NBA Players Reflect On 9/11
It was 12 years ago today that the horrors of 9/11 were etched into the annals of history, yet the events of that day still seem so recent. Two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City causing them to collapse and two other planes flew towards targets further south—one crashing in a field in Pennsylvania, the other hitting the Pentagon in Washington. Today, as many across the United States take time to reflect on the tragedy that
Five Things to Watch: Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have been one of the most active teams in the NBA this offseason. Of course, that shouldn’t surprise anybody who suffered through the marginal talent base and boring, uninspired basketball on display in Motown the past few years. But after a whirlwind offseason, Detroit is definitely ready to take a big step forward. The Pistons will feature four new starters on Opening Night, including the team’s big free agent signing – Josh Smith. The Smith signing had many
