In 2011, when the Cleveland Cavaliers were awarded the first overall pick at the NBA’s draft lottery, Nick Gilbert – the son of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert – exclaimed on national television, “What’s not to like?!” Two years after using that first pick on Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers were once again awarded the top overall pick at the this year’s draft lottery. On that night this past May, ESPN’s Heather Cox repeated Nick Gilbert’s question back to him. “What’s not to like?”
SH Blog: Are Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson the Future in Cleveland?
Success is not a destination, it’s what happens along the way. Whether we are talking about NBA franchises or individual players, they all will experience this journey in one form or another. Successful or unsuccessful. Recently speaking, the Heat, Spurs, Thunder, Pacers, Bulls, Knicks, Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers have all experienced, in some form, a journey of success. SH Blog: Roy Hibbert Teams With Duncan For Offseason Workouts; Cavs Sign Bennett, Bucks Sign Sanders
In a time constantly focused on the new, this age-old axiom remains true: it’s not what you do when people are watching, it’s what you do when you’re alone. While LeBron James is arranging police escorts to Jay-Z concerts and sneaking out of jury duty, Roy Hibbert, quietly, is spending another summer training with Tim Duncan down south in San Antonio. More from Yahoo! Sports Kelly Dwyer: [Read more…]
Sheridan: Bizarro Night in Brooklyn at 2013 NBA Draft
BROOKLYN — You know that scene in the Exorcist where Linda Blair’s head spins completely around? That was what it was like to be at the 2013 NBA draft. David Stern got booed, then cheered heartily. Nerlens Noel sat slumped in his chair as the second, third, fourth and fifth picks were called — and his name was not attached. [Read more…]
NBA Draft Profile: Anthony Bennett
ANTHONY BENNETT Selected No. 1 overall by Cleveland Cavaliers 6-7, 240 lbs. School: UNLV Class: Freshman STRENGTHS: Bennett is an imposing big man with cat-like quickness on the interior. He’s a matchup problem inside because he’s powerful enough to handle smaller defenders and quick enough to blow by bigger ones. Bennett averaged 16.1 points per game for the Runnin’ Rebels last season. Though he was streaky, he’s a prolific scorer, going for 20-plus points 13 times. Bennett is tough to move down low and is
Mock Draft 8.0: Barring Trade, Cavs Will Take Alex Len No. 1; Orlando Likely to Trade No. 2 pick
Happy Draft Day! Tonight when David Stern approaches the podium and is booed by the crowd at the Barclays Center at his final NBA Draft, we will finally have our answers. In the meantime, Alex Len remains on top of our Final Mock as sources in Cleveland have emphatically stated the 7-footer from Maryland is on top of the Cavs’ draft board. However, Cleveland’s first choice is to trade the pick and there are a half-dozen teams they were still talking to
Mock Draft 7.0: Noel rises to No. 2; Porter at No. 4; Oladipo drops to No. 7
As the NBA Draft approaches, the Cavs are still actively trying to trade the 1st overall pick, Washington seems determined to take Anthony Bennett of UNLV at No. 3 — which has led Charlotte to shop Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to make room for Otto Porter. Also, Kevin Love is once again being discussed as a trade candidate — to Cleveland, just as we reported in Mock 3.0.1 on May 29. [Read more…]
SH Blog: No progress on Doc to Clippers, but it’s not over; Lakers still think they’ll keep Howard
After the Celtics-Clippers deal stalled last night, today seemed like something of a letdown. Luckily, we’ve got Game 5 of the Finals to occupy our NBA-related attention. If the Spurs lose, they go to Miami down 3-2 for games 6 and 7. Is this really the best format? Jan Hubbard doesn’t think so.
