Tuesday night Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki moved past Oscar Robertson on the NBA career scoring list with an 19-foot jump shot at the start of the fourth quarter against the Utah Jazz en route to a 95-83 victory. Nowitizki scored 21 points, moving him to 10th among the all-time scorers’ list with 26,714 points thus far in his career. Believe it or not, there’s someone out there who doesn’t think the Indiana Pacers are coming apart at the seams. “Everybody goes through this,” Spurs guard Tony Parker said last week after San Antonio manhandled Indiana, 103-77, on the Pacers’ home court. “I’m not worried about them. They’ll still make it to the Eastern Conference finals and they’ll still play Miami.” Parker is somewhat right. From time to time, every championship contender has a stretch during a season where they look ordinary.

The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed two of the sport’s all-time greats as part of its 2014 class on Tuesday. Four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal and two-time NCAA champion Grant Hill joined Darrell Griffith at the top of a very unique and diverse class. The induction ceremony, which will be held in November, will also see Zelmo Beaty, an NAIA star at Prairie View A&M. I don’t like the NCAA Tournament. I don’t like that college basketball’s regular season provides little postseason incentive. I don’t like that the coach is a bigger personality than the players. I don’t like that the games are played on neutral courts. I don’t like that one bad game or bad call or bad break can end a team’s season. I don’t like that “close” becomes a synonym for “well-played.” And I don’t like that poor play determines the outcome much
