Maybe, just maybe. I hesitate to say it out loud, really, for fear it might all fall apart. But here goes: Could there actually be a third team of relevance in the Eastern Conference? The Brooklyn Nets aren’t yet over .500, even following Sunday’s emotional 85-79 win in Boston over the Celtics and a near-perfect 2014 in which they’ve won 10 of 11 games. Given the state of the East, that type of success makes up ground in a hurry, and now the Nets
Tweet of the Night: Reaction to Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett’s Return to Boston
When the NBA schedule was released prior to the start of the season, everyone in Boston had Sunday, January 26th circled on their calendars. There aren’t many games to mark down when your team is gearing up to be one of the worst in the league, but this night would mark the return of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Boston for the first time. May: Reunion Time is the Right Time for Pierce and KG
So far, my preseason predictions look a lot like the Red Wedding scene in Game of Thrones. Jason Kidd as Coach of the Year? Um, probably not. (Although he might well be the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January.) The Nets as NBA champions? Um, sure doesn’t look like it. Not now, anyway. They are three games under .500 (19-22) at the halfway point of the season. But . . . and you knew there was a ‘but’ coming .
SH Blog: Lowry Makes All-Star Case with Triple-Double; Nash BackTuesday?; Big Weekend With No Football
As we head into the NBA season’s first football-less weekend, it’s a great chance for the league to showcase itself on the national stage. With 29 games over the next three days, it looks like the NBA plans to do just that. Not to mention Sunday begins the season’s weekly slate of ABC double-headers — usually the two best games of the weekend. Also, be prepared, David Stern steps down next Friday! Let’s take a look at the most critical story
Mitnick: Bogdanovic The Answer To The Nets’ Future?
Not to be confused with the Serbian guard Bogdan Bogdanovic The Nets may have traded away most of their future cap space and draft picks to obtain KG and “The Truth”, but they sneakily held on to one of their aces, Bojan Bogdanovic, a Croatian star who may just be the answer to how the Nets will transition into the post-KG era. After a horrid 11-20 start, the Nets have managed to turn things around since New Year’s,
Carter-Williams & Oladipo try to overcome rookie adjustments and obstacles
Every kid playing basketball dreams of making the NBA one day, but some don’t know what to expect once they reach that level. For rookies Victor Oladipo and Michael Carter-Williams, it’s meant position switches, quickly being a team’s top option, dealing with the stress and rigors of a long season and being in situations they had never encountered or even envisioned before. Both 2013 lottery picks played in New York City arenas this week and spoke with SheridanHoops about their experiences
SH Blog: Problems Continue in New York; Wizards Interested in Greg Monroe; Parker, Embiid Could Stay in School
After a brutal 23 point loss to the Brooklyn Nets on a Martin Luther King Day matinee, the New York Knicks — and especially Carmelo Anthony — must come to this realization: to find the right answers they have to understand the right problems. If they don’t figure out how to accept the reality of their problems — and there are many — then they will never be able to overcome them. [Read more…]
Sprung: Small Ball Leading Nets’ January Resurgence
The Brooklyn Nets wanted to improve on both sides of the ball after ending 2013 with a disappointing 10-21 record. Unlike most people’s new year’s resolutions, they’ve stuck to it. With All-Star center Brook Lopez out for the season, head coach Jason Kidd thought going with a smaller starting lineup would benefit the team going forward and afford the team versatility in many respects. It worked. Big time. [Read more…]
