The Brooklyn Nets entered the season with championship expectations and one of the most talented rosters on paper. However, Brooklyn has failed to meet those lofty expectations and the roster has failed to develop chemistry thanks largely to injuries. Michael Scotto covers the Nets for Sheridan Hoops as an NBA columnist. In this podcast with FOX Sports Radio he examines Brooklyn’s bleak 2014 outlook and if it’s time to sell at the trade deadline or hold onto the core pieces for
PODCAST: Should you bet the Pistons (maybe) or the Knicks/Nets (no)?
We have quite the interesting post up today from Evan Abrams, known on Twitter as @Betropolitan, who lists the odds — and they are very long odds — on anybody other than the Indiana Pacers or Miami Heat emerging from the Eastern Conference. You can even get 40-1 odds on the Detroit Pistons, who have defeated both of those conference powerhouses. Those are the same odds listed for the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks, who both have major problems on their
Gambling on the Eastern Conference: Long odds on everyone not named Pacers or Heat
Brain-twister for you today, folks. Go back to the start of the 2005-06 regular season, and try to name a superstar player who has represented the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Your answer cannot include LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo or Ray Allen. It’s OK. Keep thinking … [Read more…]
Sprung: Nets face yet another identity crisis without Lopez
What are the Brooklyn Nets right now, other than a pathetic underachieving ballclub? Brook Lopez is not coming back this season after breaking his foot, and the Nets dropped to 2-8 without him after Monday’s 103-86 loss to Indiana. Brooklyn is 9-18, a .333 winning percentage. “It’s certainly a big setback, he’s a great player,” Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. “One of the best centers in the league, so it’s obviously very difficult to replace what he gives on both ends.” What’s worse
VIDEO: Pierce fined $15,000 for clothesline on George Hill
The worst night of Paul Pierce’s career had a hangover. It wasn’t enough that the future Hall of Famer was held scoreless Monday for the first time since 1999, when he was a rookie. It also wasn’t enough that the Brooklyn Nets forward’s scoreless night ended with an ejection for a flagrant-2 foul on Pacers guard George Hill. On Tuesday, NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn – apparently not in any sort of holiday spirit – fined Pierce $15,000 for his clothesline
Tweet of the Night: David West says “blame the GM” after beating the Nets
It’s been an unexpected season of sorts for the Brooklyn Nets. That is to say, they have been one of the worst teams in the entire league rather than one of the best as many expected them to be prior to the season. They were supposed to challenge the Miami Heat and match up very well against the Indiana Pacers. Both notions are seemingly laughable at this point. [Read more…]
Bernucca: In Trying to Overtake Knicks, Nets Have Become Them
In his stated effort to upstage Knicks owner James Dolan, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has become him. Like Dolan, Prokhorov desperately wants an NBA championship. Like Dolan, he has pursued that desperation with financial abandon, giving his GM an open checkbook. Like Dolan, he has overspent on overvalued big names. Like Dolan, he has mortgaged his team’s future by giving away multiple draft picks. And like Dolan, he appears headed down the abyss. In two months, the Nets have gone from contenders with
Tweet of the Day: Players React to Lopez Injury News
Brook Lopez is the linchpin of the Brooklyn Nets. On offense, on defense, even in the locker room and the huddles, the big man plays a vital role on the team. Saturday morning, it was announced the center would miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken foot in Friday’s overtime loss in Philadelphia against the Sixers. NBA source tells me Brook Lopez of the Nets is done for the year. Broken foot. East continues to get worse. #celticstalk — Gary Tanguay
