SH Blog: Why Jason Kidd became a great 3-point shooter
The time. The effort. The presence of mind. Jason Kidd didn’t need to become a great 3-point shooter to prolong his NBA career, he didn’t have to continuously work on his jimmy to get to the point he’s at now… [Read more…]
Sheridan: Around the NBA: Kyrie Irving will out-impact Pau Gasol
I talk to a lot of folks around the NBA, and the sense from general managers and agents is that Mitch Kupchak’s voice is being heard, and the best thing to do is stay patient and see if Pau Gasol can become a productive player again once Steve Nash returns, whenever that might be. (Remember when the Lakers said he’d be out a week? It’s now 5 going on 6). [Read more…]
Hubbard: New Orleans Should Embrace “Pelicans”
We come to you today to praise the memory of the Swamp Dragons, who are part of NBA lore but not part of NBA history. They were so close to being real – at least as real as a nickname and mascot could be. But they were extinguished at the last minute, and the only part of them that lives is a logo. [Read more…]
Mark Jackson: Son of New York City, Ire Of Its Fans
NEW YORK — With five seconds remaining in the game and his Indiana Pacers clinging to a 97-95 lead, Mark Jackson saw his former running mate, Patrick Ewing—a man Jackson once dished dimes to as if it were his personal duty—miss a finger-roll that would have forced overtime. And like that, the New York Knicks saw their 1994-1995 NBA season end. Way back then, Jackson was a paradox. A son of New York City, but a demon to its fans. [Read more…]

How would you like to hear someone say that you were hired just to look pretty? While I am sure there are plenty of jobs out there for which that is the only requirement, generally that is not the qualification for a professional male athlete. Something similar was said of Brooklyn Nets guard Jerry Stackhouse, he took it in stride.
Bernucca: Influenced by national TV money, Stern shows he is just a casual fan
David Stern is disingenuous. How’s that for one of those million-dollar words that the NBA commissioner loves to use when talking to the hoi polloi about basketball? In slapping the San Antonio Spurs with a $250,000 fine for resting their trio of stars in a nationally televised game, Stern said in his customary, quite lawyerly fashion, “The result here is dictated by the totality of the facts in this case.” [Read more…]
Sheridan: Rondo suspension should be 7 games
Warning: I usually guess low on these types of things. Also, I do not know what kind of a mood Stu Jackson David Stern is in today, and that is always a relevant factor. But the fact of the matter is that Rajon Rondo is going to be suspended for instigating a fight in the Brooklyn-Boston game last night. The question is how long? [Read more…]
