A forgettable season for Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao somehow got worse on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Varejao, who has been out with a leg injury, will reportedly miss the rest of the season after developing blood clot in his lower right lung, from NBA.com: [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: Dwyane Wade
Less than 24 hours after a close yet convincing win over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat are safely back in South Florida taking time to rest—with four days off before they face the Toronto Raptors next Wednesday at home. Heat star guard and two-time champion Dwyane Wade celebrated his 31st birthday Thursday night by compiling 27 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block during the team’s 99-90 victory over the Lakers. In the locker room after the
Perkins: Benching of Wade and Bosh shows savvy by Spoelstra
What Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra did Monday night is called coaching. Or was it overcoaching? That’s where the debate lies with his risky and somewhat questionable maneuver. Spoelstra benched All-Star guard Dwyane Wade for the entire fourth quarter of the Heat’s 104-97 loss at Utah. He kept All-Star forward Chris Bosh on the bench for all but the final 40 seconds, when the game was pretty much decided. And he kept starting power forward Udonis Haslem on the bench. [Read more…]
DraftStreet Diary: $400 Challenge Tonight — Beat Me, Win Cash
Congratulations to “PaulinNYC” who won the $100 first prize in our Freeroll last night. Thanks to all 756 people who entered; my team was as high as 17th early, but faded to 58th. I did win $50 for a third-place finish in a $2 GPP, and became a grandfather at 11:30 p.m., so all in all, it was a pretty good night. [Read more…]
Perkins: Heat fans are feeling a bit queasy
MIAMI – HeatNation is worried again. Yes, the Heat (23-9) have the best record in the Eastern Conference and the fourth-best record in the NBA. And, yes, they still have LeBron James, whose 26.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.9 assists allow him to maintain his title as Best Player on the Planet. But there’ is grave concern among fans that their defending champion Heat are playing subpar, non-championship basketball. We’ll see if the six-game road trip that starts tonight at Indiana does
Bernucca: Unlikely Clippers-Warriors rivalry heating up
There is an unlikely NBA rivalry developing in California. And it doesn’t include the Lakers. The Lakers are too busy battling the unrealistic expectations of their spoiled fans to immerse themselves in a full-fledged rivalry such as one with their neighbors down the hall at Staples Center. No, the developing rivalry is between the Clippers and the Warriors, which went to a new level Saturday night. [Read more…]
Draft Street Diary: Anything Can Happen on a Given Night
It’s not quite time to quit my day job, but I’m having a lot of fun playing daily fantasy hoops and for the second straight week, made a small profit, thanks to some luck on Thursday. It only took one winning night out of seven to finish in the black. [Read more…]
Lakers Lose Third Straight at Staples; Bobcats Win Again
My advice to go ‘all-in’ on Kobe Bryant in daily leagues backfired, and predicting the well-rested Lakers would be determined to turn around a frustrating season was another miss. The ‘tired’ visiting Nuggets won with a terrific 8-man effort. [Read more…]
