NBA news changes every day, but the Spin format is consistent. If one item has a huge fantasy impact, it leads. Then we look at the previous night’s games for anything (positive or negative) that might help you prepare for a draft or manage your team. Next is a preview of tonight’s NBA games, in a speculative mode, pointing out what to watch for. That segment becomes even more important when the games count; it will include a few tips. Finally, we mention

Mavs lose to Barcelona; Brand 3 rebs in 32 mins; R.Lopez busts out
It was not a good day for the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki was scratched with “swelling and soreness” in his knee and the team lost by 14 to FC Barcelona Regal in Spain. OJ Mayo missed all seven of his shots, Brandan Wright went 1-7 and Vince Carter 2-7; Elton Brand played 32 minutes as the emergency starter, for a modest 10 points and 3 rebounds. Chris Kaman was their best player, with a solid double-double. Stay tuned for updates on Nowitzki.
Fantasy Spin: September 13, 2012
Hi, I’m Bruce. It’s a great pleasure to be joining the team here. Kent talked about the “The Zeros” in Tuesday’s Spin. I want to expand on some of the things he said about rookies because it’s the risk that rookies (and other risky players) give you that is critical to winning. This doesn’t just apply to fantasy (the benefits of risk apply in basketball, and in the real world too) but it certainly does apply to fantasy. “Can’t Miss” Then Kent went

Turnovers are also not counted everywhere; I’m in more than one league where A/T (assist/turnover ratio) is used instead. Adjust the order of any or all of these names to better reflect your league’s settings. Tomorrow

No Mock is a Lock, But Our Mock Rocked
In the days leading up to the NBA draft, Joe Kotoch provided Sheridan Hoops with six mock drafts. Not one, not two, not three … six. His final mock for our site arrived Thursday morning and was entirely posted – picks 1 through 60 – about six hours before the first boos rained down on Commissioner David Stern at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. How did Joe do? Pretty damn good, if you ask us. Despite the surprise selection of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at
Bauman: Draft picks offer lasting impressions from 2012 NBA Finals
With the NBA Finals in the rearview and an exciting new crop of prospects hours away from officially entering the NBA, we thought it would be interesting for you to hear their lasting impressions from the showdown between the Thunder and Heat.
