Let’s get something out of the way here. Russell Westbrook is awesome. Westbrook is one of the game’s top five players, and I’ve felt that way for a couple of years. He may not be a better conventional point guard than Chris Paul or Tony Parker or Stephen Curry. Thursday night was a rough night for the Portland Trail Blazers. The team may have won the battle, having soundly beaten the Dallas Mavericks 94-75, but they suffered a crushing blow towards winning the war. Starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews went down after playing only 18 minutes in the game. The NBA on TNT announcers, Marv Albert and Brent Barry, both seemed to have suspected something as simple as an ankle injury, as Matthews tumbled to the court while receiving an outlet

The weekend came, bringing with it the Saturday All-Star festivities, headlined by the Dunk Contest. There was a significant amount of hype for Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Zach LaVine heading into the Sprite All-Star Dunk Contest.
