Quick and pretty amazing tidbit: this is our fourth version of these free agency rankings, and since we started them, the Miami Heat have not lost. Yes, the Heat are hot and the copious amount of attention they are receiving is something Charlie Sheen could only dream of replicating. So in honor of the Heat, let’s go streaking. [Read more…]
Mighty Moke’s Free Agency Rankings (Version 3.0)
I know that the Miami Heat don’t really have a free agent of consequence this coming offseason. But if they did, he would probably need to have a spot in our weekly Top 15 “just because.” After erasing a 17-point first half deficit and a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the Heat overcame Jeff Green’s career-high 43 points and extended their winning streak to 23 games. Now, 30 is actually in sight. The second-best NBA winning streak of all time
Mighty Moke’s Free Agency Rankings (Version 2.0)
It’s been a very interesting week in the Association. Aside from the obvious jostling in our weekly free agent rankings, the Miami Heat have now won 18 games in a row and have our very own Chris Sheridan wondering whether or not they can challenge the NBA’s all-time winning streak of 33 consecutive games. That record belongs to the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, who began their championship season by winning every game they played in November and December. [Read more…]
Mighty Moke’s Free Agent Rankings
The Atlanta Hawks will have truckloads of money under the cap this season, and most believe that GM Danny Ferry has his eyes set firmly on Dwight Howard. But if you’re Mark Cuban, and Chris Paul let it be known that he wanted to come play for you and with Dirk Nowitzki, do you make a run at him? The Heat showed the Knicks who the boss is at Madison Square Garden, Kobe showed that he still has young legs in Los Angeles, the Pacers put a strangle hold on the Central Division and the Thunder hold on to outlast the Clippers. Impress your friends with our latest version of Five Fast Facts. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Night: Marcus Thompson
When you’re going up against the Indiana Pacers, here’s what you have to expect: a tough, physical and defensive-minded game. The Golden State Warriors ran into just that on Tuesday night – and more. Halfway into the fourth quarter, David Lee – perhaps frustrated from something that may have happened on a previous play – gave Roy Hibbert a blatant shove on a box-out right after a whistle, prompting the center to shove back in retaliation. Lee then responded by throwing
Bernucca: Why the Lakers have to trade Dwight Howard
Dwight Howard is the best center in the NBA. Yes, still. He also is (a) incapable of making an elbow jumper, (b) unreliable at the free-throw line, (c) susceptible to long-term injury, (d) hypersensitive to criticism from teammates and coaches, (e) more interested in becoming the next Bill Murray rather than the next Bill Russell and (f) wondering why no one has handed him the icon status he desperately craves. But the worst thing Howard is – and unlike the items above,
