From time to time, the world graces us with phenomenal basketball talents that simply do not make it in the NBA. Whether this is an issue of mentality, diminished talent or discipline, we’re often left wondering what could have been. And more to the point: Where are they now? [Read more…]
SH Blog: D’Antoni could drive Howard away, Gasol privately expects to be traded
What is it with Mike D’Antoni and his disinterest in all things big men? Dwight Howard – though some of it is due to his own physical and mental issues – has been marginalized too often in the Los Angeles Lakers’ offense under D’Antoni. Pau Gasol – the man that dominated in Olympics competition over the past summer and helped Kobe Bryant win two championships – has been benched in favor of Earl Clark, who doesn’t play like your traditional big man. Antawn
SH Blog: Love rips Timberwolves management, Magic Johnson says Pau Gasol being misused
As the season approached near, an incredible sense of optimism surrounded the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio was due back from microfracture surgery at some point in December. Nikola Pekovic looked to reach new heights after a breakout rookie season. Newly acquired players like Andrei Kirilenko, Chase Budinger, Alexey Shved and Greg Stiemsma provided the team with excellent depth. Brandon Roy would make a triumphant comeback from degenerative knees after showing much promise during workouts in the offseason. Most importantly, Kevin
SH Blog: Why did Harden-to-Houston happen, and what does it mean?
By now you’ve probably heard that the Thunder dealt last season’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year, James Harden, to the Rockets for three draft picks, rookie Jeremy Lamb, and guard Kevin Martin. It’s a bold move for rebuilding Houston, now banking on Harden becoming a franchise cornerstone, and a bit of a questionable one for the Thunder, who will still battle for a title this season, but will find that more difficult without Harden. The move comes after the Thunder
SH Blog: The clock is ticking for NBA teams to get down to 15 players
The last few days before NBA teams have to get down to a 15-man roster probably mean a lot to the players, but they rarely are given a whole lot of attention by all but the most die-hard NBA fans. Still, they can be fun to pay attention to, especially for people who are big fans of the college game and want to keep track of some former college stars in the pros. So the recent news that the Blazers were
SH Blog: Jordan unhappy with Barkley’s criticism, James wants to be best of all time
When you want to hear a candid opinion about any given subject, there may not be a better NBA personnel to listen to than Sir Charles Barkley. The Van Gundy brothers are up there as well, but Barkley just has a way of grabbing you by the balls about what he has to say. He will be honest about anyone, even if it’s about his best friend Michael Jordan, who – as you’ll find out below – doesn’t exactly appreciate the
Mavericks suspend Delonte West indefinitely again
Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West has been suspended indefinitely by the team for the second time this preseason. He was first suspended indefinitely early last week by coach Rick Carlisle for “conduct detrimental to the team”, but was reinstated the following day and did not miss any games. That may not be the case the second time around. Here is the report from Mavericks press release: DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have indefinitely suspended guard Delonte West. “We have suspended
Bernucca: Do injuries to Love, Nowitzki change West playoff picture?
When we wrote last month that the Western Conference playoff picture would be filled in by the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves, it was assumed that both teams would have their alpha dogs at power forward. Now that Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Love are both out until at least December, that picture could be changing. Nowitzki and Love both are top-10 players whose presence instantly legitimizes their teams as playoff-worthy, regardless of the other 14 players sharing a locker room and airplane with them.
