The intensely cold weather brought on by a polar vortex continues to freeze many Americans from the midwest across the southeast. Temperatures in midwest are so frigid that the penguins and polar bear in the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago is being kept indoors. Atlanta Hawks small forward DeMarre Carroll came to the A-T-L as a free agent in the offseason. The past two stops for the “Junkyard Dog” were with the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets—both cold weather cities. Yet, the
Kamenetzky Bros. Power Rankings: Trying to Make Sense of Nuggets
Throw a dart at their schedule, and at any particular moment the Denver Nuggets could look like the worst team in basketball or a monumental success. They opened 1-4, won 10 of their next 12, then not long after dropped eight straight. In the aggregate, Denver is more or less what people figured — a good-but-not-great team capable of making the playoffs, but certainly no lock to do so. The bigger question for the Nuggets going forward is whether they made the
Nuggets Rescind Andre Miller’s Suspension
Andre Miller is no longer suspended. But he won’t play tonight. The Denver Nuggets on Friday rescinded Miller’s two-game suspension. However, Miller still will miss all team activities – including two games – between now and Monday for what the team called personal reasons. So he’s not suspended. But he is still missing two games. OK. Rookie coach Brian Shaw somewhat explained the decision on the team’s Twitter account. [Read more…]
Gambling on the Western Conference: A Free-For-All
Advertisement The Western Conference is absolutely nothing like the Eastern Conference when it comes to championship odds. We have what I call a two-horse race in the East versus what I am going to call the six-plus team race in the West. In the 15 previous seasons, only four teams (the Lakers, seven times; the Spurs, five times, the Mavericks, two times; the Thunder, once) have won the Western Conference, which is a similar concept to what the Eastern
SH Blog: Don’t Sleep on the Raptors; Andre Miller Takes First Career DNP-CD; Latest on Bynum
Last week, we ran a post from @Betropolitan listing the incredible odds on winning the Eastern Conference for teams other than the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers. It seemed strange at the time that the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls were the third choice, at 25-1, but it was a reminder that Vegas is all-knowing. And those oddsmakers look even smarter this morning after the Raptors put together their signature win of the season, defeating the mighty Indiana Pacers 95-92 last
Bernucca: Can the Eastern Conference Even Field an All-Star team?
Amid its myriad injuries, its dozen teams below .500 and its 44-98 record against the Western Conference, there is a looming question regarding the Eastern Conference: Can the East even field an All-Star team? A year ago, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Tyson Chandler, Kyrie Irving, Brook Lopez and Jrue Holiday were among the East’s All-Stars. You can make the argument – irrefutable in some cases, strong in others – that none of those players should be invited back
Mitnick: Top Five American Draft-and-Stashes
NBA teams have been drafting European players and stashing them overseas for several years. But the term “Eurostash” has taken on a whole new meaning this season. It’s the Americans who are being stashed across the pond, too. And one of them can actually be called an “Aussiestash.” There’s a new term for y’all. This year’s draft featured five American players taken out of college who are currently hooping overseas while their rights are retained by NBA teams. And that doesn’t count second-round
Tweet of the Day: Nate Robinson in new “Uncle Drew” commercial
If you’ve ever played basketball in a recreational setting, whether at the YMCA or the local city park outdoor court, you have probably experienced the inexplicable, near magical quality that old men often display when running the court. Some old guys have that unstoppable post game, anchored by an unfailing hook shot. Some have that mid-range jumper that never misses. Still, others school young guys in the lost skill of abusing the backboard with that timeless bank shot. In continuing his part
