Remember that time in the summer when Carmelo Anthony had the chance to join a team that was basically tailor-made for him? Hint: it’s not the floundering team he’s with right now. The answer: it was the Chicago Bulls, and they wanted the small forward badly to potentially create one of the most devastating teams in the entire NBA. Unfortunately, they couldn’t pay him the money necessary to bring him in (technically, no one could except you know who), and Anthony ultimately
Hubbard: Bird-Dirk: Still not a good comparison
When Dirk Nowitzki recently passed Hakeem Olajuwon on the list of all-time leading scorers, one publication ran photos of the top 10 scorers and it was easy to spot Dirk, the only white guy. There is nothing particularly profound about that. Dirk’s been around 16 years. We all know he’s from Germany, he’s white and he’s a great basketball player. But it did remind me of a comparison that was made long before it was even close to being even remotely legitimate
Fantasy Spin: Mavs Drop 140 on Freaky Friday
Did they widen the rim? There were a ridiculous number of points scored on Friday. Phoenix (122), Toronto (124), Memphis (117), San Antonio (121), Denver (117) and Dallas (140) all exceeded my most optimistic forecast. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Cavaliers & Celtics on Scoring Sprees
As predicted, Golden State was up 74-55 at halftime and rolled to a 21-point victory over the Lakers on Sunday. Stephen Curry and Marreese Speights were great to own, but my attempt to stack seven Warriors did not pay off. The shocker was Houston scoring just 69 points — and winning! That ruined the day of everyone who paid top dollar for James Harden and Dwight Howard. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Targeting Mavericks, Warriors
For the second night in a row, a top-dollar superstar disappointed. James Harden double-doubled, but when you pay more than 20% of the salary cap for any player, only a massive line is good value in daily fantasy. [Read more…]
Photo of the Day: The Dallas Mavericks Version of Run DMC
Chandler Parsons seems to be enjoying the short amount of time he’s spent in Dallas as a member of the Mavericks. Even though he’ll be paying for dinner on their road trips, he’s been fitting in quite well in his new digs. Parsons, along with Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis, has Dallas starting off the season on the right foot, who sit at 3-1 on the year after the one-point loss to San Antonio on the first night of the
Fantasy Spin: Rockets Ready For Liftoff
The first full week of traditional fantasy leagues is in the books, and some of us are off to a great start. If you’re a Roto expert, put that knowledge to profitable use in daily fantasy basketball leagues at DraftKings. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Cavaliers, Clippers and Bargains
Congratulations to “rdog” on winning $100,000 last night at DraftKings with an impressive 348 points. “TwoGun” finished second and third (earning $60,000) and hit the leaderboard with several more lineups. 3,475 cash prizes were paid among the 11,741 entries, a huge overlay for everyone who entered. Chris Bosh was owned on just 5.6% of teams and produced 56.25 points; I regret using DeMarcus Cousins instead. [Read more…]
